    Hi Keith,

Are you sure this is the model number? There was a rumoured V2900 but it never arrived. As far as I know there's just a V3000.

I've just searched on www.avforums.com and this confirms my understanding.

If this is the V3000 it is an astounding deal as it's being sold in Sony centres for €2100 and on-line for €1700 approx. It is a very very good TV, according to reports.

My interest is piqued... Tell me more.... Where is this deal?

    Ix.

It came up on job noticeboard for staff members & its from the sony centre, theres a number i'll give it a ring to confirm the model number.

Do you mind me asking which Sony centre? And does your company buy stuff from them? By which I mean does the general public qualify for this also?

Hmmm... actually I've given this some thought and I suspect they are selling the W2000? That has 2 HDMI ports (the V3000 has 3) and the price sounds about right... As I said the V3000 is a steal at that price.

I bought a 32V3000 lst year from Komplett for €1400. Unforunately, I've had to return it due to a faulty screen.

    OK... so this is interesting...

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620226&page=3

It seems this is a valid TV... but a rather unique and temporary one. Is it good? Probably yes... is it a great deal... not sure...

    Ix.

2900? been following Sonys for nearly 3 years...(just ordered but havent got it yet) and Ive never even seen or heard of that number? maybe it was rumoured.???

Try and get the 3000 model popular flavours are W and X now it used to be U,S,V,W or X

The W2000 and X2000 (last years model) is 1080P compatible and natively run at that resolution (Thus are Full HD TVs) as are the newer 3000 with same letter.
There are plenty of Sony shops doing free DVD recorders or even Blu Ray players.
Ive you are thinking of buying HD-DVD player over Blu-Ray be warned missconception is that HD DVD Players are cheaper well...they are but the one for under €400/€500 DO NOT output 1080P video only up to 1080i so just a pre-warn on that one.

But if you get a 40" sony 2000 or 3000 for 1500 or so and a free recorder/player that a pretty much on the ball good deal.

Ive just ordered from these guys www.flattelly.co.uk in the uk the screen I ordered came in at a whopping €400 cheaper than Komplett after all exchange and shipping has been accounted for.

Good luck in your new purchase!

    Nick

What about the x-box 360 HD-DVD add on, is that not 1080P and works out as less than €500 including buying the 360?

Site says they won't deliver outside UK - were they actually happy enough to deliver here, and what was delivery cost?

There's a bit of a saving on a telly I was considering getting from Komplett, but the delivery cost would be the decider.

    Thinking of getting this model:
    SONY 40" W FULL HD 1080P KDL40W2000U.

it's available from power city for 1499 including a DVD recorder, i am going to try and get them to throw in a wall bracket instead of the recorder. Has anyone seen this TV or a better Sony model going for a more competitive price, I would prefer not to have to order online but if there is a considerable saving to be made i might be tempted.

Thats doesn't seem to be the case anymore, the Toshiba HD-EP30 which is about €300 and the Toshiba HD-EP35 which works out to be about €400 both do 1080p.

Youll need to buy a new won after 12 months (Sorry but they seem to break alot!) Its not a great HD player from Reviews either im not a fanboy either 2 magazine I read in the last month didnt rate it much...but personally I would consider a player but I wouldnt buy a 360! :(

www.flattelly.co.uk shipping charge was a total of 179 sterling yes that sounds alot but the screen I bought still worked out that €400 or so cheaper after all expense was taken into account.
You have to send a Draft over (sounds dodgy but at 400 euro saving) drafts are traceable and must not be cashed by a cashier! soo.... :)

dmck thats a good price for the 40w2000 and free item hard to beat!

mcgovern!!!! Nice find!! cheers for that... not only 1080P but.... 1080P/24 AND HDMI 1.3!!!
    bloody hell!

Hmm - the Sony 32D3000 works out cheaper on Komplett with that delivery charge. But then again it only costs €100 more to go into Peats and buy the thing locally - could be worth it for peace of mind. Decisions, decisions.

this model is in peats for 1699 but you get 400 back in vouchers.

i'm interested in it myself but have heard mixed reviews due to clouding on the screen.

I got this today from powercity, i exchanged the free DVD recorder for a bracket in the shop costing 170euro, although he was willing to reduce the price if i didn’t want the DVD recorder, i suspect if you haggle more he might take a clean 200 off the price, also i got free delivery which is usually 25euro.

basically you can get it for 1329euro delivered.

I got the SONY KDL40V2900 40" fULL HD (1080P) in the Sony Centre Cork for €1299 2 weeks before Christmas. That model number is 100% correct, even says so on the manual! I am delighted with it. It has exactly the same specs, and I mean exactly the same specs, no difference at all from the KDL40W2000. the only difference is the frame is that of the V series frames (casing around LCD screen). I would not pay anymore for a Full HD 1080P TV at the moment. All Sony centres in Cork are selling the W2000 for €1299 and im sure you could bargain a few quid of that . I expect Full HD 1080P LCDS to eventually become standard at around the €1000 mark in around 6-8 months.

Just to coin in on this:

The XBOX HD-DVD Player will output 1080p over HDMI, but not over VGA (1080i).

    Powercity have the KDL40T3500U

    SONY 40" T FULL HD 1080P LCD
    40" FULL HD 1080P DEFINITION
    1920 X 1080 PICTURE RESOLUTION
    VIRTUAL DOLBY SURROUND SOUND
2X HDMI 2X SCART PC INPUT

    for 1349.95 online

Struggling to find a comparison of the 40T3500 & the 40V2900 however. Neither is on the Sony website ! Any ideas ?

More specs for the T3500 can be seen here:

According to a thread on AVF, the V2900 is similar to the T3500 and W2000 model.

I answered this already!! the V2900 is exactly the same as the W2000, only difference is the actual TV frame. There is no difference on any specifications. Please belive me as I researched this long enough before purchasing!:)

Also it should be noted that I am very pleased with the TV so much so I am thinking of buying another for another room in the house! SD quality on Sky is very good. DVD quality is excellent , i upscaled to 1080i and its very good. I have yet to experience 1080P as at the moment i dont have the technology. The only thing I would say is if u do buy one of these it is advisable to tweak around the colur/contrast settings etc etc . I am happy to share what i found to be the bet if any is interested.

As far as i can see the only difference being the v2900 has Dynamic contrast ratio of 8000:1 while the T3500 has 10000:1 (slightly better)

I dont know what difference this would make to performance but I am guessing it is very very slight if even noticable from any source albeit Sky,DVD or blu ray! Is there any one else able to comment on whether this type of contrast difference would make improved viewing or not ???

I purchased a 40T3500 before Christmas in an independent retailer for 1350euro. Shares same manual as 40V2900 and looks the same. Happy so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,278 ✭✭✭banchang

I must say its incredibly frustrating not to be able to find a site where the detailed specs are available for all these models.

For this type of investment I want to be crystal clear what I'm buying & what the alternatives are.

I'll make a post on AV Forums to see what can be turned up...
