HD-DVD does not work on PS3. You can use your surround sound system.

I can use *my* surround system, but what surround system had *you* in mind?

    Looking at the spec....No !

    Connector Type
    1 x audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 ) - rear
    1 x component video output ( RCA phono x 3 ) - rear
    1 x composite video output ( RCA phono ) - rear
    1 x SCART ( 21 PIN SCART ) - rear
    1 x USB ( 4 PIN USB Type A ) - front

Looks like the audio line is your only option(?) This would be done using the red and white connectors on the component cable.

IIRC, for *true* surround sound, a digital connection - either HDMI or Optical is needed.

Well there is a HDMI output on the Home System but cant use it, as the HDMI from the PS3 connection is going into my TV...what gives?

Is it a HDMI output or input? on the Home System?

*Maybe* you could plug a HDMI splitter into the back of the PS3, and split the signal between the TV and the Home System?

I was looking at surround systems and any of them with one HDMI ,are only HDMI OUT from the dvd player.

Any decoding done on the unit ,is done with the dvd disc only. Unless of course it has an optical connection.

Cheers lads for all the info, I'll give the splitter a try and see how it goes.

    Thanks

You are probably better finding one with optical IN (TOSLINK, SPDIF) then as its just as good IMO. Have my PS3 and XBOX hooked to my amp and surround sound and its the bees.
