Yeah I actually watch it every week, I love it, but I'm pretty sure alot of people would just find your man really annoying, infact I find him really annoying, still funny though. Was a great episode tonight, tearing apart the shoddy editing on The X Factor, there was another brilliant episode at the start of this series aswell where he dedicated it to showing why his own programme is so sh1t. Definately the best thing on at 12am in anyways. Its actualy alot like a televised version of this forum, so I'm sure alot of the people that post here would like it.

Brooker is a god amongst men. I recommend you check out his Screen Burn TV column in the Guardian Guide on a Saturday and his regular column in G2 on a Monday.

You don't get many TV critics that will eviscerate a programme. He's one. Gill will do it in a roundabout and prolix way as well as Liam Fay. The rest are all far too soft for their own good.

    I have all 4 series <snip>

It's a pretty good insider's exposè of the so-called 'magic' of TV production.

Brooker himself comes off like a Victor Lewis-Smith wannabe.

Mod Edit: No talk of where to download TV Shows.

seconded. he brought a book out a while back with the best of his columns in it and i've never enjoyed a compendium of telly criticism so much; the beauty of it is that he only takes pot shots at crap telly...there's no reviewing good programs - he assumes you've seen them....

What channel are you watching the series finished on BBC4 two weeks ago.

Anyway, he's great funny and right every time.

to keep them mods happy, youtube has a decent amount of Brooker stuff on it :)

    Mike.

A few times, he's made reference to the debt owed to Victor Lewis-Smith and TV Offal.

As an aside, if you can find it, try to get a copy of Lewis-Smith's "Inside the Magic Rectangle". It's a collection of his TV reviews from the Lahn Even Stannah. Dates from the early 90s but still worth a read.

Great program alright. Used only watch it after Flight of the Conchords on BBC4. Always seemed to miss it in the schedule. Clearly a smart lad. The columns are a good read too.

Yep, saw it last night for the first time. Loved it. The 99.93% of rubbish on tv atm finally has reason to exist solely so Brooker can have his chance to tear it to shreads in his reviews.

It's lovely to see someone on TV as jaded & filled with hatred as I am.

I wonder if he'd accept a commission to watch a week of Irish telly?

It's quite possible that an episode of the English Class would tip him over the edge and begat a killing spree.

he did a superb special on American TV earlier in the year, ripping apart daytime soaps, reality shows and "Manimal", as well as praising the likes of "The Wire"

Watched it for the first time tonight, although I might of seen a couple of clips on Youtube. Very Funny.

A wannable Victor Lewis Smith only seems to hammer shows which are not rated and I dont think he even likes the medium of TV so its hard to believe that he is really angry with the shows he batters. Harry Hill does it so much better.

you're quite right that he only hammers shows which are 'not rated' (by which i assume you mean 'not considered to be very good')

He's dead right to do this, though, because as long as such trash is actually made, then it takes money away from companies to make better stuff. Brooker seems to reallly love television when it's done right; cf his constant championing of The Wire, his love of gung-ho tomfoolery like 24 and the like.

Admittedly i'm talking more about Brookers written word stuff rather than any show he fronts, but seriously, to even think of Harry Hills telly criticism in the same sentence as Charlie Brooker is somewhat akin to comparing James Blunt to Jimmy Page...

:D Harry Hill has his place, at the end of the pier.

Oh by the way anyone that hails Brooker as some sort of hero figure fighting against rubbish TV don’t forget he is the creative director of Zeppotron who are responsible for this muck
    http://www.zeppotron.com/shows/index.html
Screen wipe to be fair is pleasant but please don’t put Brooker on a pedestal, he is partially responsible for a lot of poor television which is just as bad s the easy targets such a reality TV he seems to get pleasure in battering. Oh on Harry
Harry Hill does do the same thing as Brooker, in a much more subtle way; he playfully takes the mick out of shows and brilliantly points a lot of silliness in them, unlike Brooker who fakes outrage in battering the same shows. Both have their moments but please don’t dismiss Harry just because he’s more concerned with being funny than appealing to wannabe snobs like Brooker.
