That last one is stunning, well they're all fantastic, but that final one grabs me the most. I think I'm too tired to put into words what it is about it, something to do with the fine detail in the bottom vs the sweeping light/dark contrasty bits toward the top.

I've always loved b&w images. I must learn how to do decent conversions, at the minute mine are all v. much hit&miss

Like the 2nd one the most...remember seeing it on Genius of Photography - really strikes me.

I suspect it might have influenced this

Really nice - I have to say I like the legs best! Love the POV. :)

How do you decide whether a photo belongs in Black & White? Is it a matter of removing the colour and deciding which looks best, or do you decide the colours in an image aren't that strong and black & white might improve it?

The best B&W images seem to be timeless scenes that could have been shot in the era before colour. Can modern scenes benefit too?

    Removing the colour?

Kids these days! A photographer goes out with a black and white frame of mind and views everything with monochrome in mind, he does'nt get back to his PC and say "ah that might look good in B&W" For B&W you have to use B&W stock and darkroom techniques.

And here's me thinking my 7 years of Photoshop experience would be useful!

So where I can order a B&W memory Card? ;)

I do appreciate that you can take a shot with a B&W image in mind, I just thought the options for the end result were a little more open in the digital age.

Maybe they are (I'm pre-digital) but I still think for true quality B&W you have to use a B&W "chain" from film to paper.
