Unable to Turn my PC on

    Hi All,

I'm Having a problem with my PC, it''s been happening for a while and was getting worse until finally it won't turn on.

So the problem happens when i shut down the PC. I press the on switch and nothing happens. I can verifiy that the mainboard is getting power as there is a green light on the motherboard. when i disconnect the power it goes off.

So if the board is getting power, the only thing i can think of is there is a problem with the switch to turn the box on. So i am thinking that the switch could be at fault, i've had the case for about 7 or 8 years. A mate of mine had a problem with his on switch a while ago and he used to "hotwire" his pc by rubbing the exposed switch wires to turn the PC on, i was thinking of giving that a go but wanted to check first.

Actually the reason why the pc shut down was I had a power cut, but i have surge protected power blocks so i think that is purely coincidental.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Flop

I'd advise against hot wiring it to get it going to be honest...

try get a new switch and wire it to the mobo

Follow the lead from the switch down to the two pins it is connected to on the Mobo. Disconnect them & momentarily short the two pins they were connected to on the Mobo with a screw driver.

If it starts up it's definitely the switch, if it doesn't your problem is elsewhere.
