I never hear about them till they are over...possibly we could use this thread to notify people about shotokan competitions (as i'm sure there are many happening each and every weekend)

If I hear of any I will post here.

if your friend is a student there is the intervarsities in belfast this february,
    http://www.cusai.ie/calendar.php

there is one in Kenmare every year
    www.kerrykarate.com

and there is the shotokan cup which i think is annual
    http://www.uskf.org/Default.aspx?tabid=12953

all those as far as i know are open to any style but shotokan is the most dominant at them

there would be a lot more traditional karate tournaments where all styles would be involved, wado ryu etc. but the rules very similar

    hope this helps

This is held on the 3rd weekend in Feb. each year.

Most entries are from the shotokan tradition, with DIT Kenpo and the Queens Seidokan being the exceptions almost every year...

There are a number of wado university clubs and they have attended in the past.

Last year the rules covered both 'shobu ippon' and 'shobu sanbon' in the kumite section.

Paddys day is usually a big hit for karate comps with people coming over from various parts of the world.

    Hey Cowzer,

Might be good to drop Boru a line, he's quite up on the Shotokan scene.
