Extract jpgs from exe

Hey all,

We had some photos taken for a business by a photographer a few years ago. At the time he gave us the photos in a slideshow, we noted which ones we wanted him to print and that was that. But we'd now like to use a couple more of the photos.

However photographer seems to have gone out of business and we can't contact him. The only thing we're left with is the slideshow exe.

Is there anyway we can extract the jpgs from the exe, perhaps at a hex level? The slideshow was created using Firehand Lightning, which has also gone out of business and I can't download a copy of it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Quick search says the shareware version was a file called lightng.exe. http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?Gw=lightng.exe might help you to locate a copy of it.

This appears to be a link to a download that Firehand Lightning software, it says it's shareware. (it was the first google result though so i assume you've tried it)

There's also a piece of software called resource hacker with which you may be able to extract the jpegs: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

Yeah, tried the resource hacker. It extracts the dialog boxes, icons, etc that make up the slideshow interface. But not the jpgs that make up the slideshow.

would a Print Screen suffice?

Yea that works, my only worry is how it looks like when printed. Only one way to find out I guess.
