Well as title says. choices choices:

Gear: I've my black SWAT/Wet Op set up (now with Civilian AUG and MP5 PDW), but will make me stick out like sore thumb from all the camo'd up Contractors and Ghosts!

Or have me old hunting stuff (ex-Irish Army/British Army/Eastern European Stuff), that wonderful drab olive green, worn and reliable. (Currently have an M4 A1, nicely beaten to go with it, not exactly linear to Korea/Nam and thinging of picking up a GGB of American style)

But I do have a big enough duffle bag to fit it all...

Boots are ex army, well broken in, Need just a good brush and oiling to remain water proof.

So advice/suggestions and or recommendations on gloves, mask, helmet, etc. Thank you.

Hmmm, should I wear the Uzi with the Hi-tops, or the rocket launcher with the sandals....

Gloves are great, I've taken a few shots to the knuckles and they're not pleasant. As for the mask/goggles debate, depends on whether you're gonna throw a hissy if you get shot in the face, presonally I wear a mask but I'm thinking of moving over to goggles, I'll just have to remember to keep my mouth shut. Might be worth thinking about bringing a mesh mask for this weekend though, if it's wet like it was today then masks/goggles have a habit of fogging up.

Irish army fatigues are illegal to wear as far as I know (as well as any military/police rank insignia)

Other than that, wear gloves....thin enough to allow easy use of AEG's/reloading etc, but thick enough to take the sting out of being hit.

I always have to recommend a full face mask. Too many times I've seen teeth being damaged by bb's. It's hard to keep your mouth closed when you are running around a large field.

Helmets are not required, but be prepared for a few small lumps on your noggin' by the end of the day if you don't duck fast enough. :D

paddyflague is only illegal if its current issue the ol od is safe to wear , helmet wise there is a decent selection from all era's depending what look ur going for ,good boots should be on ur list ,gloves havent got a pair myself but reccomended,i too wear a full mask ,but if was useless last time it rained due to fogging ,

they look a bit heavy if you were trying to use the fire selector/reload etc., I have a great pair of my mechanic gloves, there black with grips on the fingers and palms and are great for movement if you need to reload etc and are very light.,;)
cant find a link to them but their in the section near all the drills and compressors i B&Q.,

Read the charter please, do not condone illegal activity, regardless of whether or not you get caught, it is still illegal.

I have a pair of ski goggles and used them on scramblers etc, their pretty bomb proof but i doubt HRTA would allow them without any proff of their resistance to shattering.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

Could try shooting them at blank range with a just over the limit gun and see what happens :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

the general rule for goggles is PC lens (polycarbonate) how ever been said that most lens arent tested for bb impact resistance try find something thats reccomended for use in Airsoft

most ski goggles will be plenty strong enough for airsoft. hrta allows any adequate eye protection, not just full face.

I had these before and only got rid because the fogged up too quickly,
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guarder-C4-Polycabonate-Eye-Protection-Shooting-Glasses_W0QQitemZ270186683487QQihZ017QQcategoryZ71111QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

i now use either a mesh mask out of convienence, or goggles for use in workshops like metal shops and that.

As long as the lense is strong enough, your grand.

Gloves wise, if you can afford it, i'd get a set of oakley si assault gloves: http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/images/prodimages/OK-CQB%20OakleyPilotsGloves.jpg (no more skinned knuckles)

As for boots, something comfortable and supportive arund the ankle that is also flexable enough that they dont hurt when you kneel down. something like theese are perfect: http://www.rangerjoes.com/images/A1410.jpg

or if you wanna keep the oakley theme going: http://www.tandtuniforms.com/catalog/images/oakley%2011096.jpg

I wouldnt get anything like doc martins as they are too heavy and are a killer when you kneel down onto the ball of your foot.

I have a pair of these ESS goggles http://www.flecktarn.co.uk/asges2nx.html

They are fog resistent if not fog proof very comfortable and designed to be worn with a helmet.

Sweet, my raingear arrived this week. Nothing like being snug, warm and dry when the guy next to you is freezing his balls off.

Dont think i'll bother with rain gear, last time i did when i was paintballing it made me sweat like a teenager at a victoria's secret shoot.

Gortex! Or something breathable anyway. I'm sure you can find some camo waterproofs. AFAIK the US and UK armies both use Gortex.

i got a pair of green camo pants in D2, in the pavilions one time when i was stuck for some camo and they were great. worked very well for 20quid and very tough/warm/ccomfortable

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 594 ✭✭✭Gizmodeon

    Your gun fixed?

Nope, the selector switch fell off but I'll see if I can get a spare one
Did you say you had one spare keith?
    Anyways, I got a new M4 at T4BB
    woop!

I think I might use some of my ski gear for tomo
    warm, and waterproof!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 797 ✭✭✭Spetzcong

I've considered using ski gear too, I've got loads of it, the only thing is it makes an awful lot of noise when you walk in it. I'm just gonna wear thermals under my camo and brave hypothermia if it really is that wet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 245 ✭✭cherubaul

Rain is your friend in a skirmish. If you keep active you don't feel the cold. it also dampens the rustling underfoot and provides a background noise to cover your movements, Never played at HRTA or Drogheda during a really rainy day but i can say my best days at predator were when it was lashing. Speaking of which I heading up that way on saturday :)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

I went up to HRTA today to make sure i knew where i was going for tomorrow and hadnt a hope of finding it., I ended up in the middle of nowhere with long country roads and couldnt see a thing.,lol, And i even used the satnav coordinates from the hrta site and it led me to what looked like a farm and sheep and all that.,Dunno how im ever gonna get there tomorrow.,lol

Yeah, its actually a field behind a house. You go down a laneway and there is an entrace on the right at the end of the turn. I dunno if the lane is on GPS mapping, really small private roads aren't always.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

i was just looking at it on google maps and the satnav coordinates left me at the wrong end of Ballybougal, I was near the donabate area really., i should be able to find it with a bit of luck.,lol
