    hey lads

i picked up one of those snazzy ipod touch's over the weekend and am using itunes for the first time, bit of a learning curve i have to say and they could have stuck in a tutorial of some sorts but its beautiful so to my question...

my ipod shows the album covers of bout 20 percent of my albums and i want all of them to be registered with a pic as regards to a musical notation symbol, is there any way that i can tell itunes to grab them off the oul 'interweb' do ye know?

thanks for the input in advance

The way you have to do this is to

    go to itunes,

    select cover-flow mode

right click on the albums with no cover

tell itunes to get the cover

Just to point out; you might not get the covers for all the albums

    Hope this works :)

It's a pain, the slightest mistake or differ in album or artist name and it won't get it.

I had to change JT's Future Sex Love Sounds album name about 10 times before it worked (FutureSex/LoveSounds worked).

If you select all tracks, go to the information section and click album art... you can add it manually (Google Image search helps). I had to do it with my Touch but I'm telling you, gettin them all working perfect and looking great is sooo worth it, I never get bored of scrolling through my albums.

First of all, you don't need a credit card to install iTunes, you need one for the iTunes Store alright.

Secondly, look at these images I did up... I had Photoshop open so I thought I'd text it up a bit :-)

    iTunes.jpg

This will come up after selecting "Get Info"... it's pretty self-explanatory.

    iTunes2.jpg

Hope this helps mate, any more questions about the iPod Touch or iTunes, just ask!

Do as posted above , you should get " most " of your covers ,

Now here comes the hard bit , there are bound to be some that it wont get and some that it will get but post them in a way you dont like , for instance with a compilation album it may grab each songs original album cover as opposed to the compilation album cover , some will just be plain wrong.

There is no way to auto change these as far as I know , other than to scan in the correct cover or download it off amazon , then edit the info for each incorrect entry and point it to the right art.

I got all mine , but it took me weeks. I use that lovely coverflow effect on my HTPC. Its great , once you do the work.

If you have run the jailbreak you can install the iphone applications (stocks, calendar, pop gmail, google maps etc) and also about a hundred + other applications using the installer (including terminal and ssh etc). Most of the applications available are dual iphone/ipod touch compatible - though some are iphone only. I found this site useful to start off with -
    http://www.iptouch.co.nr
though the information is different from when I used it. Its possible that you could break the ipod needing a software restore or void your warranty so mileage may vary !

Why do you need a credit card - are you buying your music off iTunes?

AFAIK you need a credit card to create an iTunes store account. You can't download album artwork without having an iTunes account.

Ah of course, I never even realised I had my account already setup with a CC - stupid iTunes restrictions.

I used an Album Cover Finder recently that worked great, encodes it into the MP3 itself.

I've found itunes a rather terrible piece of software. I was, up until recently, using wmp11 (and the zune software too) but i had to switch to itunes when i got my iphone and i hate it. I had to reconvert most of my music library to mp3(of course pedantic apple doesn't like wma) so everything was all jumbled up andi lost all album art etc. It cannot get the track metadata automatically from the web(wmp11 does this)- you have to do everything manually and even if you're certain you have all the correct info in for each track (album, genre etc) it often just cannot find the album art- it's infuriating. I now use media monkey to sort out my library. Another annyoing thing is that i can't drag and drop music into the iphone like most other ipods in itunes- i have to create playlists and make sure all the boxes(beside songs) are ticked everytime i sync(it's hard to explain) and if i forget to tick the boxes it instantly deletes everything off it.

As was mentioned earlier i think it's ridiculous you need a credit card just to get album art.

well that was a waste of time downloading that 'free version' (actually trial version)you have to spend $11 to get the full access version, this is fast becoming a pain in the whole for something so simple! grrrrrrrrr

looking in to this mediamonkey program, seems like the right job and free too, will install it and see how i get on between work and 'pintage'

just saw there that it doesn't mention that it covers ipod touch sync, worth a try anyways

No, i just use media monkey to fix metadata and album art- in the program you just right click on the song and select "update from amazon" or something like that. Or right-click and select properties and put in your own album art from www.albumart.org (just copy the image you want) and paste it into the song. Itunes will then pick up on these changes.

i had problems using itunes to find cover images.
i added everything into wmp and once everything was loaded it had about 85% of the covers.
i then used google images to find the rest of them.

you just have to copy the image in the browser and paste it into the blank icon in wmp.
then when you open up itunes it should use the same info as wmp

Subway - how does that work then? I tried this and I lost all my album covers out of itunes! I dont have an account and dont want one.

    trying this : http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/34552.aspx

    seems to work OK.

Easiest way to do them is to select your songs, right click and use the get info option. Load up the internet and use either google images or amazon.com for your album artwork as it has a better selection than itunes anyway and just drag the image from the page onto the get info box. Done!
