Lack of Information

Shopping for airsoft is annoying me no end. Most shops just don't put up enough pictures or information for my liking and yes I'm pointing the finger at the Irish boys in particular.

I thought with the wealth of knowledge you see across this board the Irish sites would overflowing with details. I suppose you all know where to look for quality information, know your stuff about brands and are just looking for the purchase but not only am I still new to this, but I'm extremely lazy and have a fairly short attention span so looking at a tiny pic and 5 bullet points frustrates me no end.

I'd be willing to help with pictures and photoshopping if it weren't for the fact me cameras broke... Seriously it is! :p

You want us to do your homework for you, so you don't have to?

Would also like the option to stick it in our neck when you're unhappy with your purchase?

Do you want a flake in that, 'Luv?

Seriously, do you think we were born with "knowing where to look for quality information, knowing your stuff about brands etc."?

    Follow these simple instructions.
    1. Get off arse
    2. Get in car / bus
    3. Walk in to MIA store in Rosemount
    4. Bring money.
    5. Walk out without shirt. (At least that's what happens to most of us):(

the problem with putting massive amounts of information up for each item is it is extremely time consuming, if you consider that it might take 30 mins to input the information and photo's for a single product online, then consider how many products a single retailer has, they'd spend all day putting information up and never have time to dispatch the orders

a quick google is normally all that is required to find plenty of full size images and reviews for each product, what aeg you looking for? try googling for it's name and add review to the end?

Hopefully the review thread will take off and fill in the gaps
of information for people that have bought stuff and post here.

I know every time I buy something I do a surf for reviews to see
if there are any know problems most of the time before I buy.

When I do buy I try to take some pics and post them here so poeple
can see better images than the ones you see on most online stores.

Ha, I came out with my shirt. They just took a kidney as collaterol.

If you want info you need to go out and find it. And from more then 1 source. Different people have different views on AEG's.

    Preaty much ya. :)

More pictures would be a good start.

I do google and go to ehobbyasia as they usually have good pictures.

It makes it easier to buy there and then if you have all the information in front of you.

im new to this too but i just consulted a few people on here about airsoft! i didnt ask them to

pick out guns for me and tell me what to get, if you're new just buy cheap starter guns first

dont go buying a CA M4 straight away.

eirsoft has a good selection of guns, and pictures.

pictures make no difference, read the threads etc and you'll find out the good brands, read the

    newbie stickie also

if you want more info about the guns contact the person that owns the site they'll help you out!

we have to look at the same pictures as you!

just shut up and just buy like the rest of us!

I know what guns I want to buy, well I've it narrowed down to 3 and I've found the information it's just a pain in the arse going all over the net looking for the information you want.

Really pictures would have been enough, I'd like to see the gun from different angles, with the slide back and so on.

I'm not a complete newbie, I already have a Thompson M1A1, M11 and M9 I just haven't got to use the things properly yet. :(

Just speaking for myself, but it takes about 20 minutes to add a new item to my stock list, and that's just using one picture.

If I was to setup and stage a few different pictures for each item, that time would go up to nearly an hour by my reckoning. Thats an unacceptable waste of time that could be better used sourcing new stock, shipping orders, doing my books, answering queries and just generally running the business.

Of course, I could hire someone to manage the inventory side of things, but then I'd have to pass that cost on to the customer. What would you prefer - pretty pictures and detailed item descriptions (Which a lot of people would ignore as being biased anyway, and go research the items themselves) or to have to do a little investigation but have reasonable prices ?

Plus there's the simple fact that if you're spending over €100 on an Airsoft device, shouldn't you research what you're buying anyway, and not rely on the retailer's glossy description and photos to make an informed decision ?
    I know I do.

mmmm.. Though one, I'm quite partial to pretty pictures..:)

I didn't think it was that hard to add pictures, I run 3 shops meself and am working on a 4th (replacement site) The stock isn't as quite as varied in the same way as yours and come to think of it I suppose I've built up a large catalog of pictures over the years so it was a drag and drop affair. These are the websites of the company I work for so it wasn't my money I was spending when I purchased the cart software and they did get themselves some preimo (easy to use:)) software.

osCommerce is a pain in the 'nads. You have to add each item individually. An Excel import function would be ideal, but there's nothing like that. There's probably an open source module you can add to do that, but the hosting company are a bit wary of doing anything other than out of the box installs.
And I don't have shell access to the account to do it myself.

You also have the problem of bandwidth consumption. If you have 3 or 4 pictures for every item instead of 1, your bandwidth consumption multiplies proportionally. More cost for the consumer to bear. Adding a new item for us also takes a considerable time, the description has to be accurate, the picture has to be photoshopped and countless other things have to be done. Adding extra pictures takes forever.

Are you going to blindly take what a retailer says at face value. Even with pictures most have disclaimers stating its just for illustration. You need to research yourself.

Well we're not really talking about any ol retailers.

I don't see the relevance. Mistakes happen and you should know what you're buying.

I should have a list of shopping cart software packages at work. I'm sure I came across an open source one that had great features but I needed one with dropdowns so you could customize the product. I think I even came across a hosted one that was very good value (if not free).
