stickies - housekeeping

Ok, I'd like to do a bit of tidying up and I've had requests for a few things to be put in stickies but I'm very conscious of the amount of space they use at the top of the forum, and how they push other threads onto page 2 early.

So, I was thinking of having a resources sticky which links to different things like the calendar of events, the boards flickr group and pix.ie tag, and also other interesting threads/posts that would be useful for people to be able to refer to. It means we can have it all in one sticky, and the other threads can wander off wherever they like but we still have a link to them... makes sense?

So, I'm looking for some nominations on what to include, then we can think about how to arrange it.

I also want to start a fresh "before you buy" thread but have it more about how to identify your needs and where to read up on specific gear, than actually have particular items mentioned in the thread so it doesn't go out of date.

    So far I'm thinking:

Events calendar and how to add an item
Link to Boards.ie flickr group page
Link to boards tag on pix.ie (do people do this yet even?)
Link to 'how to choose a camera' thread
Link to random photo thread (although I'd like to start a new one)
Link to 'wee ideas' threads (if someone starts a couple more!)
Link to thread with C&C suggestions/guidelines (we need to be careful not to be draconian with this, I'm very aware of that...)

I'd like to keep separate stickies for the events that come and go like charleville or the exhibition.

Suggestions? Ideas? Fling 'em this way :D

I've a suggestion... stop being so democratic! :D

go about your business and let everyone get used to the new order of things.

actually.. I've got a better suggestion.

keep the flickr & pix links, lose the "how to choose a camera" because nobody pays a blind bit of notice to it anyway, keep random photo link

    so... one multi purpose sticky could contain;
    1. quick post on google calendar and how to add item
    2. link to flickr dealy and pix dealy
    3. link to random photo thread

    another sticky on C&C guidelines

and if anyone wants anything else stickied.. I dunno... sticky of the month?

Not forgetting your "beware of posting music stuff" sticky.

What about sub-thread for stickies and leaving this main one without any? I have small display, so having lots of stickies makes me feel bad, just to roll and roll and roll to find what's new in here.

But it is just one stupid idea...

a forum who's sole purpose is to house stickies? The admins would think theres some major crack smoking going on...

Dont perpetuate the stereotype, Al should do half the housekeeping.

What about a sticky where members can list upcoming events that might be of photographic interest like festivals, local community events rallies etc.

A few boards people are tagging photos with "boards" but it doesn't seem to be the norm yet... Good idea though!

Bah, I can't find a happy medium between democratic and BMFH. Maybe me and Al can do the 'good cop, bad cop' routine or something...

That's what the calendar is for, it just keeps falling out of sight in the grand scheme of things but it's a great way to see what's on in one easy screen. The point I was getting at with this whole thing is to reduce the number of stickies and have one with links to all this information in one place.

And, obviously, keep the charter and the company who shall not be named standard stickies...

A sticky on up coming Irish photo competitions would be great, If anyone knows of any they can post.

Elven, thats a great idea about one sticky with links to other threads, the calendar, ect.
I would suggest that the current gear threads are well past their sell by date, what to replace them with is the question. A linked gear thread should have no chit chat about the merits of various brands/models just info on review sites, sellers and possibly brand specific sites eg ..

Deffo link to the random photo thread, but its never too far away though.
