Moniter cable - Help needed

I am looking for a cable to connect my laptop to the tv. But i'm not sure exactly what cable I need. The laptop has a standard monitor output (VGA?) and the TV accept alot of various inputs, both analouge and digital. But i'm having trouble finging a suitable adaptor or cable. I have seen one or two that might work, but I can't be sure.
What are my options?

You'll need to tell us which inputs your TV has (or the model number of your TV).

If your laptop has an S-Video output (Looksl like a PS2 mouse connection) you can get a S-Video to Scart....

It will accept all inputs really, its a new model sony high def.

Was thinking S-Video to scart, or VGA to scart. Which is better would it be better to have it to RGB instead of scart?

S-Video will not pull audio. you'll need an S-Video with a jack to plug into the audio out on the computer

Grand, thats what I was tinking i needes but was unsure if it would be suitable,
And I was aware of the Audio jack required, afaik the 3.5mm is beside the S-Video on the laptop to make this handy.
Off to maplins I suppose.

So now it becomes interesting,
I got an S-VHS to Scart lead, with 2 phono audio jacks (sound is not an issue now)
Connected it to the laptop and the AV1 on the telly.
I went to the AV1 channel and it wasn't showing up (as expected)
then I pressed fn+F8 to switch to external monitor and it shows up but its in black and white. Did I do something wrong, or can anyone think of a solution?
