EPT Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure Challange???

    Ok guys,

This is more of a personal challange however if anyone wants to jump on board then please do.

Basically Pokerstars.com have Step tourneys Sats to the PCA 2008.

I've always loved Step tourneys, i use to play the Bet365 tourneys and also the Partypoker steps.

They filter out the fish (in the later stages) and its all about aggression and hand selection. The fish are definaley visible in the earlier rounds, but the fact they are 9 man tourneys is a benefit as 1. you dont get as many 2. you can see them play every hand 3. if you do take a bad beat mid-late on in the tourney you'll often get a token to retry the tourney again so you dont loose out.

Heres more info on the PCA sats...

    http://www.pokerstars.com/caribbean-adventure/qualify/#steps

    The Challange...

Ok, the challange is simple. Step one is $7.50, 9 man tourney, top 2 advance to step 2, 3rd gets step 1 again and 4th gets $1.50.

I'm going to deposit $75 into my pokerstars account. Which gives me 10 shots at step 1.

These tourneys are all about building tokens. Many people play and advance and advance. But the way i do it is build so i have say 3/4 shots at step 4 and so on.

Ok, the setp 6 payout is as follows...

    9 man SnG

    Top 7 places paid

    7+6 = $500
    5+4 = $1,000
    3+2 = $1,500
    1 = PCA Package

    Here it is in detail...

    PCA2008steps.gif

So my aim to turn $75 into a PCA 2008 package and beyond. If i manage one, i'll go for another and so on.

I think this is the best was as they are available 24/7 and plenty of fish as well as decent players.

I'll be documenting my progress on a spreadsheet.

Anyone who jumps on board do you best to monitor your progress. Everything from number of attempts at each level and so on. I may even develop an automated spreadsheet and put it up for download.

    Good luck me

I think you misunderstand what the Steps do, they get fish INTO high buyin SNGs which usually get filled with 7-8 regulars playing close to perfect poker.

I would beg to differ. Yes there are regular step players. However in the final 2 steps id say there are few fish. Obviously there are going to be some but not as many as the earlier steps.

Again, yes, near perfect poker is played. However as ive viewed over the past few years, the players that profit from them are those who can change gears at the right time. Which as you well know, fish cannot do. However thats not saying fish cant get lucky.

I don't recommend them, I don't know much about these particular ones but in general a better shot for a weak player with a small bankroll is multi-table sats, supersats, double shootouts and so on.

Thats fair enough. However personally i would. I appreciate the advise however i'm just showing that those with a small bankroll can get ahead. And these are a great way to do it. This is what kick started my bankroll many moons ago!

They seem alot more appealing that they actually are.

The PCA steps are the most frustrating form of poker I have ever played. Unless you are going to jump in at Step 5 you are wasting your time.

I still think you are misunderstanding Roundtower, of course there are little "fish" getting through to stage 5 or 6. But if the steps weren't in place and it was just a $2,000 sat, there would be no fish buying in at that level. The steps allow some to swim up, increasing the value slightly. I don't like them, to get through 6 steps you need to run pretty good.

Ah i see where your comin from. Yeah i agree with this comment. However i dont think its to difficult for a decent player to make it to level 6. Granted if you buy in at step 1 once then you need a decent run but if you "build" tokens as mentioned its a lot easier.

I'm not saying its as easy as pie but not as difficult as it looks given time.

As per request, yes i will be posting screen shots as and when along with details of the tourneys i play. At the end of the day i'll have 10 shots at getting into step 2. If i can take 4 tokens to step three then hopefully i can hang around long enough (replying step 3 over and over 5,4 and 3rd place finish) to take a few tokens to step 4. At that stage its all about taking top 6 and not loosing tokens, you may have to go down a step but as long as you dont loose a token your still in there.

    Anyway $75 -> Pokerstars.com -> a PCA package, maybe 2 :) we'll see . If all fails ive lost 38pounds - 45euro ish.

If you quailify for its proabably far better value cashing out any Levl 6 seats, as it will be an achievement to reach level 6, and there are no seats to lower levels, its ticket or bust, cashing out level 6 seats for $2,100 will reduce varience greatly imo

you cant cash out step tickets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Not even for T$ or whatever, then its a bad idea so.
Valor, are you still giving this a shot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭valor

yes, $3k down and still no seat. I do have 2 Step 5's left though which are worth $1.4k so not so bad. I've gotten pretty close once already, finished 6th in Step with 3 seats.
