    Anybody ever seen it?

What are peoples thoughts on it?

Regularly tops greatest movie of all time polls? Wouldnt rate it that highly myself...definitely an interesting one though.

I got it out from college last year and the VHS was all ****ty like, so I couldn't watch it :(
Ozu is one of those directors I keep meaning to get around to, along with Bresson, but never do.

It's a black and white movie from the '50s about an old couple who visit their grown-up children but they have little time for the pair. Lots of low camera angles, static scenes, and long takes.

What do you think of it Nolanger...worthy of it's status?

I must say the first time I saw this was one of the most underwhelming experiences of my life......in fact I would find it hard to believe that anyone would go in hearing this is in the top five movies ever made and come out thinking it worthy of its title.

Watched it for the second time on Monday and I must say I found myself just getting totally lost and immersed into it and I really started to see what was so great about it.

Ozu forces nothing, he just lets everything unfold. He makes you feel like a piece of furniture in the house that has watched these people for years.

If anyone has seen this film and thinks it rubbish I really recommend you go back and have another look. When you know what to expect you can just sit back and watch. It is actually a very engrossing film when you stop worrying about "when the plot will kick in" or "when the greatness will hit you in the face".:D

Overall definately not an easy film to get into but very rewarding if your willing to give it another look and keep an open mind.
