Airsoft News released a review of the ACM Mossberg 500SSB (link) The chroned it at 200 - 210 fps with 0.48 8mm BBs, which is exactly 0.98 Joule maximum. So the Mossberg should be no problem in Ireland.

If it does get taken in and tested at Ballistics, your gun could easily be over the limit.

I must have it, god its awesome looking in black.
I think my beloved m3 benelli has bust its tri-nozels  *sniff*. If it isnt fixable ill be needed a scatter gun worthy of its place.
hopefully those clone m3's will be out soon and i can save her.

cool thanks Falls, im still not sure if thats the issue. basically bb's are getting stuck around their and stopping me from returning the pump to the forward position. I cant figure out how 2 disassemble it yet either and from what ive read its going be extremely difficult.

Hang on a second.....someone please correct me if im wrong becuase im just working this out as i go along (not very well).

If it fires a .48 bb (well call it .4 for comparisons sake) at 200-210 fps then shouldnt it fire one HALF its weight (.20) at DOUBLE the speed(400-420) ????????

This should explain it, it is a little confusing at times

    no, because the equation is

1/2 mass * velocity ^ 2, it's the power of two here that makes the difference, the fps/weight graph is not linear

    so 200 ^2 = 40000 but 400 ^ 2 = 160000

    hence:
    (.000048 * 0.5) * (200 ^ 2) = .96 Joules

    (.000020 * 0.5) * (400 ^ 2) = 1.6 Joules

Check out the graph here for more

I dont know what you were calculating, but if you look on the graph, that you have posted, you will see that the green line 0.45g is below 1J at 210 fps.

scope i know on arnies (namely because i read it yesterday) there are a few TM shotty experts, might be worth winging over there for some help....

what i didnt realise about this shotty until i read the review is that it doesnt use shells...thats a positive i think..it such a pity its the larger bb's...

excellent that its under 1 j tho, pity it isnt black, but since MIA are the krylon sellers now in ireland, i guess it would not be that hard to change..

is anyone going to get it??

ya i put up a thread last night and noticed an almost identical thread on some random forum nearly confirming my fears of a bust tri-nozel :(

Yes! no matter what needs to be done to it :p

yup, definitely gonna get one, just need to decide now what colour(s) to spray it, definitely black for the body, not sure about the grip and stock though

yea it actually looks pretty cool with a dark brown pump and stock though i think i still prefer it all black. wgc have some decent pics of the marushin varients.
Im going get a pistol grip and a heatshield for mine :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

yea, not sure if they actually sprayed them or if its just the light/angle of the picture?

all the other pics in the review show the wood being lighter in colour

    linkage?

ah... your looking at real steel parts, thought they were airsoft versions, i've seen wgc have m4-style sliding stocks, tempted to try one of them myself, heat shield would look good, i'd imagine you wouldnt have much trouble with the heat shield, but the pistol grip could be a problem

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Ya just from scouring the intraweb alot of people say the marushin version takes real steel parts but as ya say yourself we can only speculate that a pistol grip is one of the parts their talking about, The sliding stock's a good idea and at least itl look different to mine :p
