    Hellllllooooooo Everybody!!!

I dunno if any of you out there can remember the glorious hazy days of laying back in the bog after footing turf and downing a bottle of Cavan Cola in one! Ah the smells, the sickly sweet taste, the memories of happy childhoods and hyperactivity.

So, with all this nostalgia, we, a group of sugar addicts and wine colored froth lovers are trying to rally together as many as possible, to help us in our cause, and demand, the return of the sweet nectar of Breffni, yes indeed, the one and only Cavan Cola (not to be confused with Score Cola or Cola of similar ilk)

Join us now and make our caffeine affected voices be heard as one!!

the company that made cavan cola went out of business me thinks, Also I think the drink itself would be band now due to the large number of chemicals and the like GO ON THE EU

It had better be, the last thing I want to see is an unsafe cola released back onto the market, although it would explain why everyone I ever meet whose even used a public restroom in Cavan seems to suffer from brain damage

    its not a joke!
ok, i spent last night "researching" cavan cola in (9) pubs, a pint of guinness in each (purely research you understand)!.
anyhow, out of the nine pubs: noel bradys, mcmahons, sibin,br
    effni,pats,cruiscin,kitt
ys,owen roe, white star. there were only 2pubs with bottles on the shelf on display : white star and pats bar!
tonite ill have to continue with my research : )
In every bar i went into, at least one person had a "cavan cola" story!
I even managed to hold the very last bottle off the production line!

    Stories i heard:

My dad worked in bogues sawmill (next door to Cavan Mineral Waters) in 1956, they used to make crates and pallets for various businness's round town, he distinctly remembers wheeling barrow loads of pallets round to CMW on a sunny day (why was it always sunny in peoples memories?), and receiving a cold bottle of guinness/cola/orange etc for his pay!
also, i ended up talking to Michael Mcormick in pats bar who had loads of stories, he was tellin me among other things (and in between our slugs of guinness) that Theresa Mckeirnans dad (from swellan) was the only man in cavan that had the recipe for CAVAN COLA, unfortunately he died 10 years ago! he also went on to tell me that CAVAN COLA was a mistake!!! apparently in the early fifties there was a f#ck up in the original batch (which was supposed to be some form of orange juice) and just as they were about to dump it, somebody fatefully tasted it....... thats how CAVAN COLA was created!! cheers!

If my memory serves me correctly, I think Cavan Mineral Water produced Mugshot which was one of the first alco-pops made in Ireland.

get a facebook page and I'll join.

Bebo/myspace are arse, much like cavan cola, but I'd buy 1 bottle for old times sake, and just to remind myself how god-awful it was.

But my golly it was cheap, and it allowed you to stretch yore sweet budget in other directions. :D

I remember the wind and brass badn I played in (in Kildare) used to join up withone in cavan once a year. We'd all hop on a bus and head to cavan for the day, where we were fed on cavan cola and crisps! The packaging was hilarious!

    Etc...

The petrol of a generation that stuff. Fuelled more summers days than weetabix and corn flakes put together.

Oh yes the glory days of Cavan Cola, the only stuff you could use in replace of tanning lotion, if you got it on your clothes say goodbye to em cause the stain would never be got out.. loved the stuff, a super high when your 10, massive sugar buzz, forget your vodka nd red bull for a kick.
Skittles, Cavan cola nd sherbet.. nasty but it was the ultimate rush, having said that im not really meant to have sugar (hee hee) so for me it was palpatations nd no sleep, loved it. There was a very sectacular reaction when you poured the sherbet dip into the bottle and shook it.. open the cap a little and throw it up high, when it lands it just exploded all over the place.. fun times.
There was another brand of stuff from Donegal called "Football Special", absolute tack but when your a child it was the sweetest thing, they are gone bust for years too .. sniffle.
Anyway im totally up for the revival of the tack nd would sign any pettition goin, :D
    <snip>

You can still buy it! only not in cavan.... in Ramelton co donegal you'll find the home of McDaids soft drinks company... they make some really tasty pops... banana flavour, pineapple flavour and lsat but most relevant to this thread :- Football special!! sounds the closest thing iv heard of to what you describe! its really frothy and has a head on it like smithwicks... and a slightly sweet coffee/cola taste... it is so yummy but not to be found anywhere but the north or donegal to my knowledge:mad: if any1 wants to correct me and tell me where to get it down south i cant wait ta hear!
