Hmmmm.... I'd avoid Tatum's stuff to be honest.

Jeff Speakman has a load of DVDs out now (Kenpo 5.0). I don't do Kenpo any more myself, but hes a talented Martial Artist. If you absolutely have to go the Kenpo route he's one of the better guys to check out.

Mind you, the DVDs are pretty expensive. You might be better off just going down to a local club.

I'd avoid Speakmans stuff. He is quite good but I think that Lee Bachman and Larry Tatum are better so I would have him as third choice after Bachman and Tatum in that order. I dont know were to buy Bachmans stuff though, he has written some brilliant books on Kenpo. All instructional DVD's for Kenpo are expensive, thats life. There is also George Maughan, he still has instructional DVD's I think. He is based in Templeogue somewhere and his prices are relatively reasonable.

IMHO, Mohammed Tabatabai did a decent set of DVD's on kenpo techniques.
There is much more explanation given than in Larry Tatum's tapes/dvd's.

You should be able buy them online from centurymartialarts.com no problem
<no link, other than i have used them in the past and found them good>

    i hope this helps

Agree with you on the local club. Jeff Speakman has been in films, disasters like this http://imdb.com/title/tt0109760/ spring to mind.

Check out www.kenponet.com and go to the flame section. Its an archive with a description of nearly all the techniques and forms in the system.

Have fun with Kenpo dude, its where its at.

Very true... But IMHO there is stuff out there that is a heck of a lot cheaper and better - but that's a different story.:D

I've seen Tatum's stuff before, and I've never been impressed, except by his ultra cool mustache. Seriously though - his vids are not great from an instructional point of view, as already stated by the OP. Quite a few people have said that on Kenponet.com also. They're more of a reference on how one should do the techniques, etc. (apparently).

Here's some other guys with checking out:
    http://www.karateconnection.com/videos.htm

Seem better priced and are pretty good from an instructional point of view. Although it's been a good quite a while since I checked them out.

    Good luck... :)

I also find Youtube can be a good source of material. I just did a quick search for 'Delayed Sword' and this is what I found.

    cheers,
im based in celbridge, used to go with a mate of mine and have always missed it. i just want to freshen up on the techniques before i take it back up again...

If you're based in Celbridge you're only a walk away from Ed Downey's place, I train there! Ed has videos and dvds of the techniques and forms, call up to him and have a chat about it. Honestly I think you'd be better off just going back to a class and picking it back up that way but if you really want to freshen up with the videos you could do a lot worse than talk to Ed!

:EDIT: Just if you don't know, Ed's school is located in the Mill Complex just on the right hand side as you go in the gate. There's a big sign saying Kenpo Karate above the door!

Don't know if anyone has already mentioned this as I didn't read the whole thread. My instructor (a Grand Master) has a set of DVD's that he got professionally made, one per belt, upto 1 degree Black I think. You can get them from the website www.ugek.net and I think there's a special package if you buy them all. They're all demonstrated by him and then broken down for you to learn. George Maughan is his name, top man :)
