Dexters Dad Harry set out some rules for his step son to follow.

Up until now these have served to make dexter the adult he is and of course allowed him to "express" himself and his "hunger" with out getting caught.

But my question, Was Harry right?

What else could Harry have done to help Dexter?

I'm not talking not make him a serial killer, but what could he have done to make Dexter a better Killer.

In today's world of Developing crime scene forenics, surely he can not be as clean as he currently is? surely he has left some form of evidence behind?

    What do you think?

forgive any spelling mistakes, I'm only hu-man :D

Making Dexter a better killer? I'm not sure. Dexter has a routine that he sticks to pretty rigidly and I suppose as a forensics worker (blood spatter) he would have an excellent idea of the best ways to avoid contaminating a scene.

I suppose this is what we are meant to think but yes I do think that earlier in his career Dexter would have made plenty of mistakes. Harry couldn't have forseen the developments in DNA technology for example so Dexter would have had to work that into his clean-up routine.

The overwhelming sense I get from the Harry flashback scenes is that Harry preached the virtues of being methodical and taking time to ensure everything was right before going in for the kill. (accurate cliché use w00t!)

After that it's up to Dexter I suppose. :)

Harry realised that Dexter was going to kill regardless of what he said. So Harry was basically performing damage limitation, honing Dexters bloodlust into a more acceptable outlet, killing people who society would be better off without.

I think Harry did a good job with the rules. Dexter always checks hi victim to make sure they are deserving. Dexter is in the right job too. Being in forensics means he can stay ahead of the game but up until now that hasn't really been necessary. He has never had any crime scenes investigated (that we know off).

I wonder did Harry convince him to go into forensics as a way of teaching him what he'll need to know what to do to prevent him getting caught.

He may have done but I think Dexters fascination with blood probably pushed him in that direction anyway...or maybe Harry recognised that the fasciantion with blood could be put to good use and teach him what he needs to know to stay one step ahead.
