iBook screen

Opened up my laptop the last day and the screen is just flashing red,green, blue etc...
When you turn it on first it does show a shot of the password screen but then just changes colours!/
Any ideas?
How easy is it to fix?

can you give more information? did the computer ever work? any noises?
if its a brand new laptop just send it back for a new one. you have 28 days to swap it for ANY reason at all

Is it plugged in when this happens (i.e. not running off the battery)? Try zapping the PRAM. Also try booting up from the OSX dvd.

Also have you made any changes recently? Like installing new RAM?

But tbh it sounds like the logic board might be f**ked.

Its not new by any standard but i didnt have a single problem with it!
It was working one night and the next morning the screen just went...
But for some reason I still get to see the screen for a second when it first starts up and then the screen just switches between different colours!?
Never seen anything like it before.

And if the logic board is f**ked does that mean I am?

Pretty much but try some of things I suggested first. You need to eliminate the possibility that it's a software problem. It seems unlikely but the graphics drivers might have got messed up or something.

When starting up does the flashing start immediately? Or only after it's finished logging in?

How old is the ibook?

Sounds like it could be the famous logic board problem. I've this problem with my G3 iBook.

Lean firmly on the panel to the left of the trackpad as you start it up and see if it works for you.
