Mc Ilvanney on Boxing - Hugh Mc Ilvanney (Sunday times writer some fantastic articles from 70s 80s and 90s)

Dark Trade - forget the writer.

Have to agree with Buck65, they are two great boxing books and personally I regard McIllvanney as the very best boxing writer I've read.

A brilliant book which you often see quoted is 'In this Corner' where 40 ex-champs are interviewed. It was written late 60's and it's gas to see the usual "boxers these days aren't as good as they were in my day" attitude of some (not many) of the older boxers. Some things never change !! My favourite boxing book.

There are loads of Ali books, most of which are middling, but Thomas Hauser's is good and there's one I have which stands out above the rest but I can't remember the title, it has a yellow cover - I'll get back to you on it.

Chris Eubank's autobiography is an excellent read, whether you liked him or not (I did).

Years ago I read a biography on Rocky Marciano and really liked it but again I can't remember the title (you can probably spot a trend here - I'm not good with names).

There was also a recent one on Sonny Liston which has got good reviews and considering the subject was so mysterious it's worth catching, but needless to say the name eludes me.

I read a John Conteh autobiography years ago and liked it, though it was kind of heavy and I was young at the time.

King of the world by David Remnick is my favoutite Ali book. Covers the Ali v Liston fights very well and Remnick doesn't pull the punches when analysing Ali either , a refreshing and objective biography.

    You da man Buck.
    Thank you.

Now that I think of it the cover isn't yellow either.
