Hi everyone thinking of upgrading the computers here we have 4 fijitsu siemens, Pentium III 400 MHZ, 64 MB Ram, running windows 98, 4GB hard drive and microsoft office 97. think we would definately need to get one new one as we deal with alot of graphics and would need a fairly powerful one but am totally clueless so any help would be appreciated

Buy a new one definately, from the specs you listed there for the other 4...dump them all.

Not sure if this is a joke or not

    suimhneas.

Go on to the dell site and run wild, any pc you buy will wipe the floor with what you have. You can get a graphics card that will run faster than your current PC.

Actually just decide on what you are willing to spend and then go on to the site, remember that you will also need to pay for a new version of Office.

suimhneas the PC's you are using now are so outdated I doubt a charity shop wouldn't even take them off your hands. Go to dell.ie or somewhere similar and do a bit of research

wish i was joking really, im just starting in a new job as office manager, and this is the first task i have been given, boss would rather not spend money on getting new ones if they could upgrade the old ones. boss also has a laptop dell pentium M1.6 Ghz 256 MB ram windows 200 40gb hard drive ms office 200. should i throw this one in the skip too? hope you dont think im been cheeky using your brains

    Nah the laptop is fine.
Even if you could find parts for them upgrading the PC's would still be a fairly futile exercise.
I don't know much about purchasing for a business but I couldn't see 4 basic PC's costing more than €2000?

The biggest cost could be the MS Office, I would go for Office 2003 if I were you. You can cost it in when your buying your new PCs.

Ring Dell and set yourself as a small business with them, that way you can get an account manager who has the power to reduce the cost even further. They cant always do it but if you dont ask you'll never know.
