I have booked a flight to New York with Aer Lingus next Tuesday 20th Nov from Shannon. I just heard on the News that the Aer Lingus ground staff are striking. Will this mean flights will be cancelled???? In a bit of a panic because its my honeymoon.

I'm meant to be flying to New York on the 23rd which is also a strike day, it said on the RTE website a 'four hour rolling strike' so maybe its not an all out
    strike?

Our flight is at 2pm so chances are my flight would be effected. Is this definatly going to go ahead or is there a chance it will be diverted?? I need to go and book alternate flights. Would I be intitled to a refund now if they cannot guarantee the flights??

We will just have to wait and see, sometimes these things get cancelled at the last minute, but Aer Lingus will send you out on the next available flight or even with a different airline, they will cover all costs involved and would give you a refund.

Have you tried contacting Aer Lingus?

I don't understand this strike business at all. Whatever the objective, strikes are bad press for Aer Lingus and means people, like me, won't use them.
    No bookings = no €€€

End result? The airline folds? Workers all lose their jobs?
What the hell is the point?

What exactly does "rolling four-hour stoppages" mean??

I think it means the following, but not 100%. SIPTU represents alot of staff in Aer Lingus from check in staff to baggage handlers to cleaners. Rolling four hour stoppages is more than likely going to come in the form of one of these groups stopping work for four hours followed by another group four hours later, .ie baggage staff stop for 8-12, check-in from 12-4, cleaners, 4-8 etc etc...

If this is the case, it could be disastrous! I'm all for the unions right to call a strike but this sort of strike hurts passengers the most and is totally irresponsible of both company and unions...
