Solicitors Fees

    Hi there ...

I've just gone through a divorce and have received an invoice from my solicitor .. €5,500!!! My ex got something similar. We have a daughter and the separation/divorce was very amicable. to me, these fees seem extortionate. We both asked our solicitors for an estimation of fees before we started, but didnt receive it. I've checked on the Law Society's web site and apparently solicitors are obliged to give some kind of indication as to what the cost will be. My gut feeling is to play ard ball and say that i'll pay half of it, because for the amount of effort they put in, it seems ridiculous. Anyone any thoughts or prior experience?
    thanks!

    Ask advice from another solicitor.

If you never received as estimate then bring it to the Law Society's attention. I think they have an ombudsman for these type of claims! Solicitors are obliged to provide estimates especially when requested by the client!
