Can you keep your old passport?

I'm about to renew my passport but was wondering if they'll send back the expired one to you with your new one? Would love to hold on to it as I lived abroad for a while and value the associated memories (surly border guards in Angola, J1 visa, etc).

When I renewed mine, I got my old one back with an "Expired" stamp on some pages and the corners chopped off the cover.

No need and it takes longer to get a new one if you can't present the old one.

You'll get to keep it, yes.

As far as I remember, I got my old one back along with my new one, but with the corners cut off.

Thanks all. Apparently if you report the thing lost/stolen more than twice you'll have future 'passport restrictions' or something.

Yes, A friend of mine told me that her friend (ok so might not be 100% true as I don't actually know the person in question) lost her passport 3 times and can't get a new one for 10 years. So I wouldn't be so flippant about claiming it's lost. If it happens too often they might think you're selling it on the black market or something. Anyway, everybody I know has got their old passports back.

If you lose your passport twice or more they can dictate that you can only receive a temp passport for when you need to go abroad. Valid for maybe 3 weeks or something, and you have to pay full whack each time. So essentially every time you go abroad yid have to pay the full passport cost.

I still have my old green passport issued in 1979 .It cost me £2.00 back then and i hear they are collectors items ????

I am not looking foreward to paying £52 to have my second one renewed but suppose i will have to .
