I've highlighted in red the one complete sh|te thing about this deal. Integrated Intel graphics card. Won't play any recent game unless _everything_ on the graphics is set to minimum, and even then won't run some older games. I say this, as I support a similair spec, and everyone keeps ringing up wondering why their £400 notebook won't play (or even install) Sims, and other new games (and Sims ain't that new).

The DVB-T is pretty sweet, info about it can be found out here.

i.e. this is not a bargain alert :).

Aldi/Lidl used to do good deals for PC's and laptops but not any more. That graphics card is crap.

every part listed seems to be old tech,
    hardly worth the price.

Dell would give you the same without having to queue

DVD Drive: Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/- RW Drive
Hard Disk Drive: 160GB (5,400 rpm) Sata Hard Drive
MISC: Jet Black Colour with Matte Finish & 2.0mp camera
    MISC: Primary 9-cell 85WHr Li-Ion Battery
    Memory: 2048MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)

So Aldi isn't the best deal around

I paid just over €600 for a similarly spec'd Vostro recently - the only difference it had was a slightly smaller HDD (120GB), no DVB-T tuner, only an SD card slot and no intergrated webcam all of which aren't worth the extra €200 and all of which I'm happy to add on as required or in most cases just do without.

tbh, the entire computer market has become so much cheaper in the last year or two and Aldi/Lidl have failed to catch up.

I prefer to think they are part of the reason that prices have dropped :)

Ah, I doubt it tbh - at best them offering the extremely occasional (and extremely limited) good deal on a PC or laptop is a slight inconvenience to the big players.

It's just your standard pattern of production getting cheaper - although in Dell's case being knocked off the top spot by HP sure didn't do them any harm in getting their act together!

HP certainly are scaring Dell into action and causing them to drop their
prices - especially noticeable during the last month of Dell's sales quarters
as anyone who keeps an eye on Dell's prices can verify. October was
a particular good time to pick up a cheap Dell as they tried to increase
sales for quarter-end by dropping prices. We're in a new quarter for Dell
now which is the reason there aren't so many bargains this week/month,
I think we'll have to wait to January and the end of Dell's current quarter
before we see any more amazing Dell bargains.
