Streaming files from my DNLA enabled laptop to the PS3 had been patchy at best, but after downloading update 2.0 the PS3 was finally able to see my music and video folders properly on my external drives. I can finally stream music properly, though the video support is still crappy.

What other things have you noticed with the latest update?

haven't tinkered with it much but the new theme idea is cool (saw one or two available to download free on the american store), as well as the new xmb section for PSN and the ticker at the top.

solid update i'd say but still doesn't address the issue with bringing the xmb up in a game. i believe it's down to memory being allocated to games rather then OS but it would be nice if they sorted that out.

Are you just using the windows media DNLA ? I'm using Nero Mediahome to transcode as I stream (to MPEG1 High bitrate, haven't experimented much with it yet), and the quality is great, and it's letting me stream AVI/Divx/Xvid etc. I think others are doing the same with Tversity too.

Your using what now?! I know you can use Nero to setup streaming if you had no luck with Media Player, but what's this fancy transcodeing terminology malarky?!
I had been using windows media DLNA and I can get very few video files to play.

    Too Late :)

It's just an option in the Nero streaming program (Mediahome) to convert videos on the fly as they are being streamed. This means it can take a file that the PS3 can't play, like an AVI file, and convert it to one that it can, like MPEG, as you're streaming it.

Where might one get this program?

indeed TVersity does the same thing, and it's free which is always a bonus. I use it mostly for streaming from one computer to other puters/laptop but have also tried is with the psp & ps3 and it worked a treat

    :o
Any luck with the HDMI since? I turned on my PS3 yesterday and all of a sudden my HDMI settings were reset and it was asking me to auto detect appropriate settings again, was weird. I'm not sure if it was because of some buttons held down on the controller as it was upside down at the time.
