New UCD Mods

I was just wondering how the new mods were chosen.

No offence to either of the guys who are both lovely but Raphael rarely, if ever posts on the UCD board.

The past few times we've changed mods since I've been around it there's always been a thread on the board about who the boardsies would like to see as the new mods.

Was there any reason that this wasn't done this time??

There was a thread in the Mods forum recently, and both Sangre & Hulla wanted to step down. Two people put themselves forward, and I believe there were no objections from Sangre & Hulla about it.

But on the topic of the posters choosing, didn't someone else 'win' the 'mod election' on the UCD board last time yet Sangre was picked? 'Tis up to the admins' wishes as to whom they want, of course.

Well sometimes mods are chosen for their modding abilities rather than their post count within a forum. It can occasionally help that the mod is somewhat removed from the normal debates that might occur in the forum. Having said that, it does help if a mod is a somewhat regular poster/reader.

Yeah, I saw the thread in the mod forum and agreed The Minister would be a good mod.

Think it might have been me... ;)

Actually me and Pythia. But I know she cheated on the poll, she told me after.

    Just because I rarely post, doesn't mean I don't read =)

I'm not disputing how good or bad the mods chosen will be, i'm just wondering why it wasn't done the way we've done it the past few times.

I'd know a lot of the regular posters on the ucd board irl and last time the mods changed everyone talked about who they'd like to see as the new mod.

Yes sangre didn't win it last time, but i'm not talking about doing a vote again, but it was good the way the regular posters got to discuss who they felt was best suited to mod the board.

The minister, the minister is a mod? Oh my. What was the thought process behind that one.

just to point out that it wasn't just the UCD forum that was reviewed, it was all forums, it wouldn't be practical to start threads in every forum asking opinions then collate the results imo..

I think it was along the lines of "who would make a better mod, the minister or boston?"

The main difference is that in the previous times it was just a single mod of UCD stepping down and someone stepping up - single, isolated and internal to UCD. Wheras this change is part of a larger thing, a boards wide shake-up of mods. If the same process had been followed, it would have been A) A millstone around the neck of the process and B) caused people in other forums to complain that them shower of hooligans in UCD got to pick their mods and we didn't. So just treating UCD in the sameway as the other forums was probably better in the grander scheme of things, even though you got stuck with me, which as my fianceé will attest, is truly a fate worse than death. =p

Ah yes. What I said could sound like the UCD forum is being singled out.

Steph, the process of electing a mod based on a thread is almost unique to the UCD forum. In most other forums, the outgoing mods recommend their successor, or a poster that came to the attention of the admins is appointed, or a mod decides they'd like to mod it. Since our appointments occured due to a boards-wide shake-up, the normal process of consultation was bypassed

I've been an economics mod for more than half a year. I am generally a reasonable poster, and I rarely get reported. Most of the qualities nessacery.;)
That being said, this is my first feedback thread since becoming mod, so I obviously am not doing my job.

EDIT: @Raphael: You have a financeé? Congradulations.
    @Copacetic: Burn!

I've been an economics mod for more than half a year.

I'm disappointed that any mod of the Economics forum has lowered himself to the demeaning task of modding the UCDD forum. You're worse than a socialist now.

INo offence to either of the guys who are both lovely but Raphael rarely, if ever posts on the UCD board.

Posting in a forum you moderate is not required and is not the primary reason for the Admins choosing a mod.
Mods are there to clean up the mess and keep the peace. That's all a mod is required to do.
The past few times we've changed mods since I've been around it there's always been a thread on the board about who the boardsies would like to see as the new mods.

You can post all the threads you want and discuss it to your hearts content, the Admins will not take anything said in such threads into consideration when deciding on the new Mod. That decision takes place elsewhere.

Often we ask the exiting mod to recommend replacements and take them into consideration, other times we ask for hats to be thrown in the ring.
I do like those vote things you guys do occasionally, they're so cute! :0
