4 penalty points - insurance hike?

    Hi all,

Just got a letter from the Guards informing me I was clocked at 130km in a 100km zone on the new N6 road somewhere between Kinnegad and Kilbeggan. I thought it was motorway but guess I'm wrong and have gotta pay up.

My question: I was caught once before, about 18 months ago at the notorious spot near the Spa Hotel in Lucan and so have a total of 4 penalty points. My insurance did not go up since this incident, is it likely to jump up much now that I have 4 points?

Am going to really, really ensure I don't get any more points in the future.

    Thanks,
    Paul

depends on the insurance company, i know quinn direct dont pass too much remarks until its over 4 points, but as i said it depends on the insurance company

just make sure that you do disclose the points to the insurance company, cos god forbid, ya have an accident, if they find out ya had points and didnt tell them, they can cancel your insurance "Non Disclosure" and you dont get a pay out on the claim, just what ever you paid the company returned.

Quinn dont increase insurance til over 4points as far as i know, but best to check with your own company

what company are you insured with.It shouldnt be a problem and worst comes to worst it would only be a 10% loading.

Makes a bit of a joke of the system if ins companies dont check.

I've 4 and it made no difference. I didn't get some imaginary "discount" for having them. But even if I had 0 I'd say it'd still be imaginary.

I'm with FBD - I'm not required to inform them now of the points, am I? Policy does not expire until August 2008.

Still speeding even for a motorway in fairness.

Do you mean if you were in an accident they wouldn't check?

Would it not be called an M6 then?

Hibernian give you a 20% discount if you have no points, 10% discount if you have 2 points. So in effect they have a loading if you have points.

I have 4 with no apparant loading, never went up, but it does state that there is a discount if you have none !

I am due to loose 2 shortly, do they send any notice ??

Is there anyway to check what you have and when they are removed ?

Only if you get a notification of the points.Dont tell them before that.

Most insurance companies won't care until you have more than 6, and even then they're not interested in points gained for speeding. Dangerous driving etc. is obviously another matter.

But always declare what points you do have, as mentioned above, lest you get screwed later on for non-disclosure.

Yeah the RSA send you a notice that you have "dropped" points after 3 years.

It was my understanding, after being told by a Garda, that penalty points are for Garda use only and the insurance companies have no access to them. Can anyone give a definitive answer to this NOT AN EDUCATED GUESS!!

Don't know where you get that from but its incorrect and varies from company to company.

Sorry to raise this from the dead but a quick question.

I got 2 points for answering a phone. Paid the 60 quid fine this week. Am I correct in saying that I don't have penalty points until the fine has been processed and I receive a letter informing me of the points.

Can I inform the insurance company then or do I have to inform the insurance company now?
