    Guys,

I have played c. 20k hands at 1/2 on GJP, mainly at the start of this year and over the past 2 weeks again ( Poker is my Winter sport! ). Over these hands I have made c. $ 4,000 profit.

My first point is my variance.... fcuk me its crazy.. an example being the last two weeks.. I had planned to lodge €4k into my IPOKER a\c as a starting bankroll... the first night I lodged $700 with the balance to follow..... within 3 days it peaked at $3.2k... great eh!.... today its back to $1k!.over a week I have jojo-ed.. I have lodged another $ 2.1k and will lodge more next week to bring balance to $ 5k.

I know I made some brutal mistakes and called in ridiculus situations...I feel purely bad play has cost me $1k alone, hopefully I will learn from this ****e play...... obviously I have had my share of badbeats but thats not my issue... my issue is my variance and why I donk off so much.

My stats are 29/19/2 with a positive BB number.... I would paste my PT stats but don't know how, won't cut and paste like a normal page.....

My main questions are as follows:

1.) Do I play too many hands?
    2.) Am I too agressive p/flop with non-premium hands?
3.) Am I too passive post/flop, I feel I am agro! but stats say otherwise... maybe cause I call to much p/f with 22-99 for set action. I am a raiser post flop and win alot of pots with agression... sometimes bluff when timing is right but understand when I'm beat.
4.) On my PT I am savage profitable with AA/KK/QQ/AK/AQs.... should I become a NIT and just play premium hands and kill the fish over time and forget all the rest of the hands?
5.) Am I in general playing too many hands, I 3 x table max and like to build momentum.. when I do I usually crush tables building big stacks. However, I may need to keep buying in small to allow this to happen.
6.) Fuzz, HJ, IanMc , Valor, Van Dice etc what are your stats... am I too wild compared to you guys? Do I need to tighten up?
7.)My biggest leak is is when I play at night and I am tired, I just play sloppy and make sloppy decisions and calls....I don't really gamble and stay at 1/2 without fail....

There are seriously good players on this site and I would appreciate your view on my stats, play etc... any questions or other stats just ask.

    Ray

29/19 means you are calling too many raises or limping too much, there shouldn't be such a gap between the amount of hands you play and the amount you raise

are u playing 6 or 9-10 handed? if ur playing 6 then 29vpip should be alright but at 9/10 handed this is too loose

em, 10 BBs per 100 over large sample, I think you know what you're doing!

Variance is always going to be like that, don't worry about it, just make sure you are bankrolled for whatever level you're at. what bankroll you should have depends on 2 things
    a) what BB/100 you expect long-term.
    b) your style of play

generally people say 30 BIs per level, I kinda think it should be more

Someone should be able to tell you how to post a PT screenshot, idk

The answers to the other questions are all subjective, the 'standard' winning player at levels up to 5/10 will be tighter and more aggressive than 29/19/2 though. But as you tighten up preflop, your postflop aggression will increase anyway, so that would be killing 2 birds with one stone.
I would say it's more likely than not that you could play less hands and increase your win rate, but I don't know how good a postflop player you are. My stats are something like 22/18/3.9, but I've had lots of samples where I've been 15/11. Obv also samples where I played 30/25 or so too. Depends on who's at the table, whether there are shortstacks in the blinds, etc etc

Everyone has hugely profitable numbers w/ QQ+/AK. I hate looking at that in my database cos it feels like I'm an idiot who can't play anything else profitably, but yeah, majority of my profit comes from the premium starting hands. I think most people are the same though. For the last 6 weeks my profit w/ QQ+ is more than my total profit lol

Don't buy in short. It severely impacts strategy, I've only ever come across 2 or 3 shortstackers who are good.

answer to 7 is easy :)

Thanks Van Dice, good advice.... I will focus on calling less with average hands and raising with muck in early position ( as much! )

As response said my 29/19 gap is too wide.....by the way I only play 6 handed and never limp.....

Any more advice please let me know.... by the way I feel I'm a reasonable flop player and can out play some players... not great but improving all the time.

    Cheers again

It's not really possible to give specific advice, but go to PT, and look at your stats on the 'Position' tab. It really reinforces that you want to be playing very tight UTG, and not calling raises when you are in the blinds. So look through that, see which type of hands you are losing money with, and stop playing them :)

    1. As has been said, call and limp less preflop. You could probably tighten up a little. 24-26 VPIP would be about right, with PFR of 20-22.
    2. I'd guess you're not aggressive enough with them. For example with those stats, i'd guess you're limping 67s, 9To and the likes after limpers. Raisy daisy!
    3. Postflop aggression of 2 is fine.
    4. No. Thats the worst idea. If you only raise those hands then you'll be very predicatble.
    5. Not a huge amount too many.
    6. I'm 22/18 over my last 25k 6 max hands.
    7. If you're tired and not playing well then quit.

Edit: Also, fold or raise more from the SB. thats a recent adjustment i've made to my game and its worked extremely well so far.

I don't know how you figured this out. I am generally 25/16. I don't limp and I almost always raise or re-raise.

completing the sb distorts vpip/pfr figures. id guess you complete loads of crap hands after limpers.

That and the fact that its fine to cold call a raise with a lot of pairs, to call rather than re-raise in multiway pots and to call when defending your BB to the SB. If you're playing on very loose tables (and you should be). There's no real reason for the VPIP and PFR numbers to be very close together.

    i do all that and i'm 22/17.

likewise. i call most pps in position against an open and scs in multiway raised pots. i rarely complete the sb anymore with garbage. my stats are 22/18. well 22.4/17.9

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭RoundTower

lol I also do all that and I'm 22.2/17.4

completing the small blind wont affect that figure too much. Also, unless your stats are really close together then you do limp sometimes. Maybe you mean you dont open limp

If you are 25 16 that means you are limping roughly 9% of the time

That's once every 11 hands. Hell would freeze over before I limped that often.

    Hi D,

and guys in general I never open limp.... I do call raises a lot with drawing cards like AJs or KQ and all PPs so calling must obviously cause my 29/19 gap...... my raising range is v. wide! especially in position i.e. any two will do..

Any specific points on my play that hasn't been covered?

    Cheers

I find it hard to believe that your pokertracker stats are coming up incorrectly, which is the only possiblilty other than you limp or cc more than most players here.

Once every 11 hands is about once every 2 orbits, which isnt that much, (im around 24/15)

I think this discussion is a little silly though, actually being good at poker and knowing what to do when is more important than getting your pre-flop stats to some non-existant optium level. The nature of the game you are in should dictate your stats.

29/19 is perfectly fine. There is no optimum level for preflop stats.

Calling raises in position with reasonbly good hands (and sometimes some big hands) is perfectly fine.

Bring back the lost art of seeing a flop, I say.

How are you supposed to know if low cards are coming out tonight ... if you never actually SEE a flop?

    Quick Question:

When you post as xx/xx/x, what are those numbers referring to?
