They need to patch CoD 4.

I'm desperately awaiting a patch that will fix some of the really shitty issues in this game. Notably the handshaking protocol for the PC client. I'm getting pretty fucking tired of having to reconnect to a server more than 18 times to get in to the game before being informed that the server is full.

Another major issue is the compatibility with some sound drivers. CoD 4 multiplayer just wont seem to run with my current sound drivers. I found a way around it by opening up the single player client from the CD and switching to multiplayer from that. But that has stopped working now and I just can't run CoD 4. It's rather annoying.

Even though the short amount of time I've spent playing the game I thought it was one of the best games I've ever played, this really makes me think other wise. Very very disappointing.

hmm just saw your post, i went to try and play online at 20.05 this evening, it's now 20.34 and I have been unable to connect to any server in the ingame browser or via the console. I was having the connection timed out prob earlier but no where near as bad as it is now, it's mightly fustrating, I'll give it a few more tries then I'll just give up.

right the timeout issue is apparently to do with the cod4 authentication servers and not the game itself.

A slight work around is to lengthen the amount of "awaiting connection"'s before it times out.

console command is /cl_connectionattempts 30 .
You need to do this everytime you load the game.

This should stop your client timing out before a response is received...unless of course it still hasn't connected after 30 :p

I have just finished the singleplayer(i think) on veteran (which at times was more frustrating than fun, god damn you farm level!).

My question is, (for those of you who haven't finished the game its spoilerd)
I think i finished the game, griggs and captain price are dead, as is gaz. I just shot zhaerkaev (or however its spelt) with prices pistol. After that im winched into the chopper and the news caster starts talking. I get to the bit where it says about a S&R for a ship lost has been abandoned, the game then crashes. Am i missing anything? Cheers

Singleplayer was excellent, especially enjoyed the audio when
uou were in the spectre gunship
. Multiplayer is also awesome though im not happy they went the CS router with S&D, ie one bomb and you need it to plant. Also where is the bomb defuse noise :p
Another thing about S&D is calling in an airstrike right at the start of the round anihilating everyone at the spawn, they really shouldn't allow those special abilities to carry over from one round to another.

Domination is hectic but fun, as is HQ.

you get a bonus level when you clear it, and hear Griggs rapping :D

Had one timeout tonight when i ranked up and left the server to create a class took me 2 minutes to get back on.

other than that game runs perfectly online is brilliant, singe player was brilliant.

not on the 360 they haven't, Last 7 or 8 games i've tried to join, I either got connection interrupted once I joined, got kicked out of the lobby, or the game completely freezed!

Console gamers don't matter. They're not real gamers.

i had the sound card problems, i was running on board sound and was to lazy to take the soundcard out of my other machine, so cod4 didnt want to start and kept giving me an iw3mp.exe failure on startup of game.

the fix is to go to c:/programfiles/activision/cod4/miles/ and delete a file called mssmp3.asi..

worked for me and i was up and running straight away.. hope this helps.

Don't you have some drivers to update or a BIOS to reinstal so you can actually play a game?

Actually, I got it working and in the process I sorted out an issue where I was getting lag spikes for about 3 seconds every minute and a half. Had been having that problem for almost a year now.

What was the resolution? Have been having a few lag problems myself over the last while.

No, actually I discovered the solution to my lag problem accidentally while searching for a solution for the sound card problems. I'm using a wireless network card and I use the software that I got with the card to configure the card. Turned out that the windows default configuration program for 802.11g was running in the background as well, which was causing the spikes. Turned that off and now it's perfect.
