    Hi Folks,

I was trying to put my system in order and I noticed that GarageBand is taking up nearly 2Gb of space on my HDD. As I never user it I dont see the need for it but I dont see any obvious way to remove it, I could simply drag and drop the application to the trash but would that get rid of all the samples and stuff that are no doubt taking up all the space.

    Has anyone used delocaliser

Just tested it very quickly with an app called AppDelete. I always use this to uninstall apps as it cleans up all the preference files etc. as well as the app and places them in a clearly identifiable folder in the trash. I did a Get Info on this folder and it was 2.03Gb in size. Seems to me it's just what you're looking for ;)

There's also an Undo command, which I used straight afterwards :p

EDIT: I've never used (or heard of) Delocaliser, but according to that web site development ceased before Panther was released. It may work fine but I certainly wouldn't recommend using something so old on Tiger or Leopard, especially when there are alternatives.

Instead of Delocaliser you might try Monolingual but be careful some apps might not be happy with what you delete.

There's also AppZapper. It's the most popular of this kind of app on iusethis.

Yeah I think you can pretty much remove the sampler files manually which are used with GarageBand and Logic etc, this would get rid of a couple of gigs as you say, but you'd probably be best to leave the Apple Loops cos these are used by various apps ie iMovie for sound effects etc.
I just did that Monolingual thing on my iMac (running leopard) seems to work a treat. Took out about 4.5 gb of languages, architecture and keyboard inputs.

    Hi Guys,

Cheers for the feeback, I'll have a look at AppZapper now. Just out of curiosity though can GarageBand be downloaded from Apple or somewhere just in case I needed it in the future. Or can I simply do the reverse of deleting to install it?

You can install it off the OS X installation CD

errmmm..... re monolingual, dont do the 'remove architecture' thing with monolingual on an Intel machine. Fecks up the running of Rosetta apps such as Office 2004 Entourage!
