Just bought applecare for my macbook pro on ebay for 143 euro delivered. Unopened and trusted seller. The price on the apple site is 449euro! Think that was a good deal. So if anyone is about the go and buy applecare then you should readlly check ebay first.

Got me Macbook Applecare (and this years Dotmac sub - €52) from the very same seller, cost me €111 with the codes sent via email. Can recommend this ebayer.

Did you do this after I posted? Also did you request for the codes only?

No I got that stuff around July this year and I seem to remember just sending a mail after I'd won the stuff requesting codes via email. There's nothing in the Applecare boxes really and you can just download the latest version of Techtool with your Mac s/n via the Apple support pages after registering the Applecare product.

Ah cool. What does tech tools do exactly?

I too bought an AppleCare Protectin Plan for my MacBookPro from this eBayer recently.
It arrived and I registered it over the phone. No problem at all and only a third of the Irish price. :D:D:D

I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered. May be cheap but far from fast with posting. I ordered Leopard the same day from a seller in NY and got it 3days later. This has now been over 2weeks.

Is this the 3 year warranty AppleCare?
I didnt realise it came as a physical product? I just ordered my macbook online this week and also added on the 3 year plan as an optional extra. Simply got an email with serial code etc to quote to people if the need arises.

What comes with the physical product, or am I also due to get one?!

It comes as a physical product so it can be sold in shops etc. Its just two cd's(I think). One which launches the registration and input the serial. Then theres tech tools but as mentioned above you can download that with your serial via apple's website.

I think my 2nd hand macbook is after crapping out - can i buy applecare and get them to fix it for me?

You can only get it if your macbook is within it's manufacturer's warranty: in other words, if it's less than a year old.

Definitely getting it- my macbook just developed the little crack at the edge, in addition to a flickery screen! :(

Nah its out of warranty :( I may have to call work and take compasionate leave!

How can you be sure that its genuine?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

You have to judge based on feedback/others experiences and take a chance. It's just a code at the end of the day, which you register, and you'd know straight away if you'd been screwed over as Apple wouldn't accept the code when you try and register.

It's a risk I'm willing to take- even if you do get screwed it's practically cheaper to buy another than to buy it off Apple Ireland anyway.

Not necessarily. Someobeody could have figured out how to make keys that apple will accept.

Well I dont think that could be the case, as it's surely Apple who create the keys so if they work they are genuine and if they dont they're not. In any case, when you take your Mac to an Apple authorised service centre, the technician really does the same as you can do on the support page, i.e. he puts in your s/n and if it says your Mac is covered then he can do the repair.

Of course fake Ebay members with false feedback is another story!

Got it the other day. It was perfectly genuine. I also recently bought Leopard online. Most of these will come in the box in perfect condition and with the wrapping still on it. I doubt you will get someone who is making these codes and even if Apple do accept them then whats wrong?

With ebay there is an element of risk but people who are serious about making money will not want to ruin their rep by ripping people off. They will make more money by genuine sales from a good rep than ripping a few people off.

Hey, are you guys sure that Applecare bought in the States is valid over here? You all say it registers which is good, but has anybody needed to use it yet? I would hate to think I'm covered and somebody on the phone tell me "Sorry, you're in the wrong region".

Its valid anywhere. All it is, is just a serial number nothing else.

It has to be bought within one year. Doesn't matter when within the year you buy it though. Whenever you can afford it I guess?!
