shrinking avi video file

    Hi,
    I have a avi video file which is about 1gb. i want to burn it onto dvd into vob files so it will play on any dvd player so i use sonic software (which i used before) but when i transfer the video on to sonic software to edit and burn to dvd as vob files it shows in the software that the video file is nearly 8gb which is to big for 4.7gb dvd.anyone with any suggestions on how to remedy this. thanks.

    It'll convert it in about 35 minutes depending on cpu etc..

    i use convertxtodvd , i find that it converts a lot faster than nero and it auto sets chapters for you instead of having to manually set them yourself

    Is the convertxtodvd freeware ? If you have link please post it.
    I've tried an avi to dvd program called dvdsanta and it was horrid.
