Legal distance restrictions on ESB electricity poles?

    Hi folks,
Does anyone know how far three phase electricity poles should legally be kept from a home? (3 phase is just 3 power lines carried between sets of poles I think?)

I ask because some poles were put up after a house was built, but while no-one was living there at the time. No consultation seems to have been offered, the contractors working for the ESB apparently just put them up and left.

At the nearest point they're about 10 feet from the house. Now I'm not an engineer, and know nothing about the specifics of electricity/restrictions - but doesn't that seem a little too close?

Has anyone here ever been able to get ESB electricity poles moved/buried? Has anyone come across something similar?
any comments would be very welcome!
    Cheers!
    Robin.

    Don't know.

If no answers here try the Science / Engineering forum.

I suspect the answer is that there are electrical engineering type regulations or standards that cover all this.

The ESB and / or the contractor probably has some obligation to you to inform you of new work (not repairs or renewal). In general they do and don't set out to annoy people. It is possible the contractors were working from drawings that didn't include the new house.

The ESB has statutory powers to erect power lines and ancillairy work. These powers are extensive and sometimes slightly oppressive.

As 3-phase is sometimes used in houses, I don't see a problem with it only being 'near' a house.

You might ask the ESB to move the pole to somewhere more convenient.
