I'm thinking off getting a new amplifier soon either the
ONKYO TX-SR605, Sony STR-DA1200ES or the Sony STR-DG910B.

I have old speakers from a sony DAV-S300 and recently got a sony DAV-DZ230 which also comes with speakers. Can i use these with the above amplifiers or shud i really get some new proper speakers for it?

    Thanks in advance
    Shane

Eh ... No , you cant use those speakers , you could try , but they will probably have their cones blown across the room the first time you tested out your new amps capabilities.

Those home cinema packages tend to have their power ratings grossly over exaggerated , whereas the more quality amps that you are looking at , dont , they use rms , which is the only correct term , and to put it bluntly , they are far to powerful for those speakers.

Those speakers are no match for those amps and would sound terrible anyway, you need new speakers , it would be a sin to connect any of those nice amps to those old speakers anyway.

    Cheers thanks for the reply.

Any recommendation on what speakers to get?
I know it really depends on price so lets say a budget of 500-1000.

I'd agree... dump those "speakers" and forget them. Try www.richersounds.ie as they'll have decent speakers at sensible money or have a wander around Peats, Wharfdale are a good speaker for that kind of budget.

Have had a look around and thinking of getting the Wharfedale Diamond 9.HCP Home Cinema Package. Only problem is i can't find anywhere (online anyways) that deliver to ireland. Anyone know of any good shops that would?

Peats Do Wharfdale and list the diamond 9 series. Try there.

Alternatively , there are some very good packages available from Richer Sounds that will deliver to Ireland.

I`d go for these - €899 + €25 delivery (I emailed richer sounds in belfast for the price)

They`re available in white or black
