there are different types some are glued others sewn or plaited. It shouldnt hurt too much it will take hours there is this place on westmorland st next to the bag shop upstairs that does it for 68 euro which is really good most places its very dear

I think the cost depends on whether you get fake hair, Asian hair or European hair. Also, how many extensions you want, like a full head, a half head, etc.
I thought it was a good few hundred. Make sure you get it done somewhere good as I heard it can make your hair fall out if it's done wrong.

Personally i think the clip on ones are great! you can use them as many times as you want and they are easy 2put in they just have clips on the top and only takes minutes to take out again! They are around 50 euro but you certainly get your money's worth!! ;)

Agreed! You can buy the actual extension clips on ebay they're only a few quid! Your better off doing that because you can go into an Afro shop that sells bags of hair and make your own clip in extensions! I think this way is better because they have more of a selection and it would be easier to find a colour to match your own!!
I had extensions weaved into my hair before!! They looked fab for about a week but then they got really itchy and there was hairs everywhere!!! When I took them out my hair was after getting really thin too! I wouldn't recommend them!! They were cheap enough though, around €180 I think!
The best ones to get are the micro bonded ones! These are the ones attached in small strands! I've never had them done but they do look the most natural!! Saying that I can't imagine that glue being good for your hair!!! Clip in extensions win for me hands down!:D

The Hair Extensions Studio - 30 Wicklow Street, Dublin, do them they are excellent - cost if €550(a bit pricey) for a full head of of extensions. I had them done there before and they looked really good... nobody knew they were extensions they looked so real! I'm getting them done on Monday again! - although I have some in now and have to get them removed - they are charging me €100 to take them out... Does anyone know if i can remove them myself? they're clued in...

I get mine done by a girl that used to work in the dragons lair, shes been doing them for years. She rents a chair in a salon on baggot st and charges about the same 550 for a full-head but only 60 euros for removal and maintenance & shes real fast.

i think you get what you pay for at the end of the day. mine lasted 5months the first time. this time I only left them in for 3 months only because I got them done locally and they only did half a head.. and my own hair is shorter on top. just don't like the style. so getting the full head done on monday. I don't need to visit hairdressers again till i'm taking them out - so in the long run i'm saving by not visiting hairdressers every week like i used to... well, that's how i justify the price anyways!

    get them done professionally.

the clip in ones look cheap and fake, and the glue in ones are really easy to do badly

it's worth paying a couple of hundred and do your homework...maybe go into town and ask in a few salons?

yeh i so agree, the clip-in ones just hang in your hair, there is no shape to them and the colour doesnt match exactly unless its black. they are a great quick fix to a special day or night out but some people like myself like a more lasting result. Like all quality products on the market that explode & become very popular, cheap affordable crap will pop up too. You pay for what you get, simple as.

I got extensions before with fake hair, it was €100.. wouldn't get it done again though..didn't look all that great. If you can afford the real ones go fir it, they're fab!

A girl from college swears by the clip in ones..they look good..you wouldn't know they were fake to look at them. Why not try them out first?

Buy the clips on ebay and make the extensions yourself! This way you can make long strips to go around your head or smaller pieces with 1 or 2 clips for the sides etc!! I brought mine to my hairdresser and he cut them so that they blended it with my own hair and they look brilliant!
the colour doesnt match exactly unless its black

Again if you actually buy the clips and get the hair seperately in an afro shop you can match the hair exactly to your own colour!!

Hi i was just wondering what is the best method to get is it the strand by strand method! generally how often do you need to go and get the up keep of them done?
How long does it take to get a full head done?

Bekz could i ask what method did you get done and is the price the same no matter what lenght you you get for the 550 offer, Id like 18 inch but does this mean the price will be dearer?

    Sorry for all the questions,

    Thanks guys

    Hi Katie,
Price is the same no matter what lenght you go for - they did put the 18" in mine in end and cut it up to the lenght i want. Strand by Strand is dearer, but there is no shedding and no maintenance, the other method is €550 and you need maintenance - the salon i went to has a web page www.hairextensions.ie you will get some more info there. Just make sure you go to a reputable salon and get them done properly otherwise your wasting your money.
    hope this helps

And how long do extensions last? Do they fall out and will they have to be cut out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14 bekz09

i got 5mths out of my first set. 2nd set four mths - and only changed them because i didn't like the style. some fall out themselves, but generally you need to get them removed.. they melt the bonds with heat and they should come out very easily.

Sorry if this is dragging up an old thread..

I recently had a hair cut that I don't like. I asked for a straight across bob. I got a childish 'bowl' shape cut where it's longer at the back and gradually gets shorter at the sides and is above my chin at the front

I was thinking that it could be sorted out by styling it into a long 'pob' or at the very least a bob that is the same length at the front as at the back..

Here's where the extensions come in. I would only need some at the sides/front of my head to get the length down to where I need it until it grows back itself. I don't think the clip on ones will work because I basically need to have the whole lot restyled by a hairdresser.

Could anyone recommend somewhere in Galway to get this done and what sort of price am I lookin at? The only place I know of is Bellissimo and I've checked their website but they have no price details.

    Any suggestions/advice welcome!

I have clip in extensions, I made them myself. I bought the hair (100% human) and clips from the hair extensions shop in Moore St Mall. The colour is a perfect match. Nobody knows my hair isn't my own!

Don't get the strand by strand ones, they are very expensive and will destroy your real hair so you need more extensions! Look at Britney Spears to see how bad they look when done wrong.

Hair extensions forum here, these people know EVERYTHING about hair extensions!

How much did you pay for your clips and the hair? The prices seem to vary a lot from shop to shop, Is it easy to make them up yourself.

    Thanks

I paid about 120 for 3 packs of hair. I have very thick hair so I need really thick extensions too.

It's easy to make extensions yourself. Takes a bit of time but it's easy. You take your strip of hair, cut it to fit the back of your head, and sew on the clips. I sewed two strips of hair together so I wouldn't have as many rows of hair to clip in.

It's VERY important to cut the hair so it blends with your own- I layered the front as my own hair is layered, and tapered the ends at the back so as not to have a straight line as I don't like my ends to be too blunt.

It's great having the clip in ones because I can just take them out when I washing my own hair.
Make sure you get 100% human hair so you can straighten and blow dry it if you want to.

i was thinking of getting them, but i have blonde hair which i dye once every 4-5 weeks so do you think that would be a problem?
