College Drop-Out

I dropped out of Arts UCD a couple of years ago, really for personal reasons. I travelled for a while & am temping at the moment. This is ok for the moment but I'm 24 now and want to be thinking about a career. I regret not finishing but I wouldn't want to go back at age 24. I've tried applying to banks because there could be some progression with that but don't know what to do. If I'd finished I would have done a postgrad by now & feel I'm missing out not being able to travel for a year or 2 like I could with a Degree. Is anyone or has anyone ever been in the same situation?
I've posted here before so don't point it out. If you're not gonna say anything helpful then don't reply.

Why not go back? If not as a full-time student then what about part-time study? I did my degree part-time and survived.

    How old were you?

I was 24 when I started - 28 when I finished. There were people my age in the class and all the way up to 80.

It wasn't a walk in the park by any means but it was so worth it.

    Hi,

Im 22 and Im in my final year....I am probably one of the youngest people on my course! 24 is nowhere near too old!

Im sensing your just using the age thing as an excuse as you really dont want to go to college?

Have you thought about joining the Gardaí? What about the Fire Service? The army would look great on a CV too, and they send some people to college (not sure the specifics of that). The Prison service is another (less glamorous) option.

Im 22 and am attempting to complete first year of a degree that I regret starting! I much prefer the adult world of work... I would suggest that if there's something that you really feel passionate about studying, seriously... go for it!

24 is not a late age to go back to college. In fact it's ideal because you're far more mature than you were at 17/18 but you're still very young. It's not as if you're going back at 50. Don't let the age thing put you off. College doesn't suit everyone when they leave school. It certainly didn't suit me. I dropped out and went back at 23. Loved every minute of it - great decision. It was a bit weird being in the same class as people who were born five or six years after me, but there were also plenty of people who were 20+ years older than me.

There is really no problem here.
I'm a young gent of 18, but there's loads and loads of people on my courses who are all ages, one guy who i know to be in his late 70s.
A guy on my course in his 20s dropped out and then decided to restart, he's finding it grand.
There really should be no problem.

On a side note, the social aspect will be grand. I'm friends with people of all ages on my course, university seems very open to age. I know the social aspect isn;t your greatest concern but it does help.

Thanks for replying. What other options are there other than the College route?

    Carpenter
    Plumber
    Electrician
    Painter & Decorator
    Fire Brigade
    Garda
    Army
    Start your own business

Aside from that I really dont think there are many exciting career options open to non-grads. You may well be able to get a job and work your way up but I cant imagine it would be anything great to start with.

I've just read through your old posts. WHOA it's amazing how many times you post the same questions!!

    Here's some helpful advice:

You say in an old post you are a 23 years old with a mortgage free house worth about 750k.

Why not sell the house and spend the rest of your life only doing things you enjoy? I don't understand how you are so lost and depressed considering you are so young and have so much money.

If I were in your shoes I'd be living in France and working part-time as a DJ or something. I sure as hell wouldn't be worrying about ****ty bank jobs.
