    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056592/

Hate to say it, but I've not actually seen this one, so not much blurb from me. However, it is great to see an older film win once in a while.

    Dear God... watch it!

If just for Gregory Peck's performance.. and this scene alone:

Haven't seen it years but remember thinking the performances from the actors playing Jem and Dill were a bit hammy in parts.

Wow, I'm shocked that this won. I think it got five votes? American Psycho last week had about fifteen. It sure was an indecisive week. Anyway....

Brilliant film, but I say that in a guarded manor. Most of the stuff with the kids is somewhat pointless and forgettable, if you ask me. This film is all about that courtroom scene. I was more emotionally involved in that sequence than I normally get and when the jury read their verdict I actually
: shouted in frustration. Atticus had tried so hard to change the minds of these close minded people, and he failed. I really felt for him

As an aside, I believe this was Robert Duvall's first film, and he stayed indoors for weeks so that he'd look suitably sallow.

A true all time classic. It suffers some what from not being as good as the book (what films are) but the courtroom scene is wonderful and gregory peck is fantastic in the lead role. I don't agree with the childhood sequences being pointless. The film is about growing up and learning that the real world isn't fair or as clear cut as we think it is in childhood.

Excellent film with an outstanding performance from Peck. Had to know the book inside out for the Junior Cert a couple of years ago, so we had to familiarise ourselves with the film too, which was quite enjoyable for an English class. :)

A good mix of social commentary, life lessons and hammy acting.

Haven't seen it in a while, but I remember it being a faithful and worthy companion to the book, which is better than the film (but then there are so few films that actually improve upon the book - apparantly the Sweet Hereafter - a fine film - is one of the few examples of 'film better than book' syndrome).

But yes, a classic and a worthy addition to the list.
