2.0 update borked my PS3...

So I downloaded and installed the 2.0 update earlier today, everything seemed to be fine and I checked out the new theme options quickly and then switched the PS3 off.
Tried turning it back on just now and nothing is being displayed on screen. I've tried using the HDMI cable and composite cable but it's the same thing.
The lights on the front of the PS3 all seem to be fine (wifi light is blinking away merrily and the blue one lights up when I insert a game), but it's just not outputting anything to my TV:confused:

Any ideas before I bring it back to Game? (I don't want to lose all of my DLC...)

If you disconnect the HDMI cable and try using the standard AV cable that came in the box as a test does it display anything?

I've just been onto the playstation forums and the 2.0 update seems to be messing up a couple of others PS3's aswell, although nothing as eriou as yours. They have an online metachat thingy where you chat with a tech guy if you need to. Check out here after 1pm and you should be able to get through to someone.

    Try another cable first.

Also, if you really do need to bring back the machine, see about keeping the HDD (it is removeable). Even if you can't remove it though, the DRM on the DLC is such that you'll be able to redownload it on the new machine pretty easily.

edit - also, try turning on the PS3 by holding down the on/off button for several seconds until it beeps a second time. This will reset the settings to factory defaults, so if anything got messed up in your AV settings that might fix it.

Hmmm... tried resetting the display settings (hold the power button in when switching on) and I'm then able to use the composite cable.
When I plug the HDMI cable in it says that it has found an HDMI device and prompts to switch to it. when I try to change to the HDMI channel it just shows a blank screen.
Tried a different HDMI port on my tv and it's the same thing.
    Tis fecking strange:confused:

Thanks for the help so far guys, I'll try fiddling around with it a bit more later
Hopefully this is just me being a bit thick rather than something wrong with my TV or PS3...

Those lads on the Playstation Chat are really helpful, and you're connected to someone in less than 3 minutes...

When you reset with just the hdmi connected, you still get a blank screen?

Try resetting again, but this time when you connect the HDMI cable, instead of switching when that notice comes up, say no, but then go into your Display settings and change it manually there. Also, it probably helps to only have one AV cable attached a time.

If there is something wrong, it's either the cable, or the HDMI ports on either the TV or the PS3.

Tried all of the above but still no joy, and have also tried the other HDMI port on my TV and nothing happens there either.
Seriously pissed off about this... I might just end up buying a component cable instead:(

I wonder is it something to do with an oudated version of HDMI? Is your HDMI cable compliant with the latest standard?

Sounds stupid but have you tried powering your tv off and on, I had this problem on my 42" Phillips as I always let the tv in standby, resetting tv worked for me

Yeah, I've tried that a couple of times now, had everything unplugged at the wall but still no joy. The cable seems to be a HDMI 1.3 one, so I can't really see that being a problem. It's a gameware one though, so might be a bit pants...

I even went so far as to format my PS3 in case that might be causing it
    *starts tearing out hair

this happened to me too. resetting the tv worked a charm, and it turned out the issue was with the resolution. the ps3 was outputting fine but the tv got confused with the change of resolution.......... or something to that effect.

when you turn the ps3 on, hold down the "on" button on the unit itself for a few seconds after it's on too. it forces the system to boot into the ps3 firmware... it probably won't do anything but just in case it's loading something else on boot.

When I reset the display settings on the PS3 i could get it to work using the component cable but still not the HDMI, it's working now but gave me a bit of a scare at the time

Don't suppose anybody has a number for sony support?
Spoke with a guy in game and he advised that I'd be better off contacting them instead of bringing it back to the shop (as they wouldn't be able to test the HDMI output in the shop:rolleyes:)
