ophthalmologist?

I have a problem with my eyes. It's not related to sight. Therefore I need an ophthalmologist (as opposed to optomatrist for sight issues). Does anyone know of a good one - consultant etc? I don't see the point of going to a doctor just to be referred to some random guy of his choosing.

    Prof. Lorraine Cassidy

She's not cheap - €200 for a consultation. But when it comes to sight I wouldn't put any price it.

She works from the Eye and Ear.

Presumably you can check into the eye clinic in the mater in an emergency instance but you should go to your gp to get a referral.

Prof Cassidy is top notch - know her well.

If it is a case of visual problems unrelated to lens correction, go to your GP first as they can refer you to the right ophthalomologist. There are subspecialities in ophthalmology and if there is something very specific, you may need to see them.

I know this thread is a little old but has anyone got any other referrals?
I am seeing Prof Cassidy in the Eye and Ear hospital but they still can't diagnose the problem and the waiting lists are crazy. I want to go private just to get this all sorted, I'll have to wait even longer to see Prof Cassidy privately than in the Eye and Ear hosp.
    Anyone know anyone else? Thanks

Depends what your issue is. There are consultants who have different specialties. It may be an idea to see an optometrist who can check your eyes and advise you on what specialists would be best for you problem
