Retrieving Mac files with a PC

Guys, I've got an old Mac laptop that stopped working after an incident involving red wine (hard drive is fine... I think).

I wanna try get the files from it, mainly photographs and stuff. If I stuck the Mac's HDD into an external HDD enclosure, would I be able to retrieve the files by hooking it up to my Windows machine? I have no idea what format the HDD is, though it's about 4 years old so I would imagine FAT32?

    Cheers.

Was it OS X in 2003? As you can tell, I'm not a Mac user. I would be inclined to believe that the hard drive is formatted with HFS which Windows can't read out-of-the-box. Macdrive is a popular product for letting you access HFS-formatted drives. You might be able to download an evaluation.

Failing that, there is software for Linux to enable you read HFS drives. You could download a live CD, install the packages if needed and copy data off the drive to another drive or USB key, etc.

Not too sure what OS it was, not my laptop y'see.

Cheers for the suggestions though, I'll have a look into them.
