So it's out today, anyone got their hands on the PS3 version yet? Impressions? Judging by reviews it sounds like it's a winner on whatever platform you play it, but if there are any PS3 specific quirks or things to note, it might be nice to hear about it.

I'm ordering it today from playasia, much cheaper. Getting it for the 360 for one reason, xbox live.

I bought Ratchet and Clank instead, was tempted with Call of Duty, but not sure if it's different enough from Rainbow 6 and Ghost Recon for it to warrant a purchase from me. Sounds great though. Have to make tough choices the next few weeks, so many games coming out! The Orange Box and Assassin's Creed next week, have Rock Band arriving from the states in a couple of weeks, then there's Haze and Uncharted. I'm defo getting the Orange Box and Haze, so not sure how many more FPSs I can handle!

Hmm, it is hard to know where to put money (3 PS3 games I want out today - lucky I already have one of them!), but this has been getting glowing reviews. The single player is meant to be quite short, but still excellent.

As for online multiplayer, I hear it's fine on all platforms..they've built functionality on the PS3 side where needs be so that it's the same as 360 (OS-provided functionality aside).

tried to get it today in gamestop ... wanted to trade in the two games to get the one free but the guy said that call of duty 3 and motorstorm added up only to €23 ?!?! so he wouldnt do it ...even though the ad says "any" 2 ps3 games
will have to buy it tomorrow so ...
anyone know where it is cheapest ?
    cheers cian

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That is pathetic!! Gamestop is awful! never buy of them, i think a second hand motorstorm is E50 in there(theres some major profit there!)
EDIT: I'll give you E30 for the 2 lol!

I found it for about E47 on ebay(heres the link , dont go buying all of them.. i want one too!) seems like a good deal!

Brilliant game, enjoyed the SP but the MP is fantastic. TDM is addictive.

A bit dubious about modern weapons as its not what COD is all about but play it and that will most definitely change your opinion on that.

    10/10

Edit: Decided to buy COD4 on the PS3 over the PC and not disappointed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 127 ✭✭ciano14

picked it up in gamestop this mornin'
had a look around in game, hmv and gamestop so it's €69.99 in all of them at the moment if anyone was wondering but i traded in 2 different games worth €35 all together and got it for free....happy with that !
brill game online is very addictive

Well in light of the Orange Box delay my impulses got the better of me earlier and I picked it up in Xtra-vision, just finishing my post-pizza ciggie and going to give it a whirl. Looking forward to it now!

im sure you'll like it ;):D
how much was it in xtra-vision ??

bought the 360 version in xtravision for 59.99 and got saving private ryan on dvd free....ps3 is same price aswell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

It was 64.99 in my xtra-vision. Just played the first couple of levels, it's excellent. Has a nice balance between action and tactics, really cool stuff. I have Ghost Recon too, and haven't played it much, mainly because I got it the same say I got Warhawk. This seems to have all the elements of Ghost Recon that a like, but is much more frantic and tense. Looking forward to trying the multiplayer, from what I've read sounds like you can unlock some pretty cool stuff for it as you advance, like dropping grenades when you're killed so you can take out your killer too! I think it was reading about that detail that made me want to get the game. I love being sneaky with grenades in mulitplayer games :P I'm lethal with 'em in Warhawk.

Brilliant game, but single player is far far far too short. Its even shorter than Heavenly Sword! That said though, the little bonus level at the end after the credits have rolled was damn sweet!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 127 ✭✭ciano14

is it really too short ??
im stuck on the mission where its 15 years ago and you have to crouch down in the grass while the army and tanks are going past but i keep getting spotted every time and shot multiple times :( thats not near the end is it ?

I'm having a lot of difficulty getting this game online. It worked ok this afternoon for me and I got about an hour of online gaming which was fantastic. Problem now is that it just stays on the trying to join potential matches screen. It just will not connect to a game
I've heard that Call Of Duty games are finicky about port forwarding etc. but I have absolutely no clue what that means or how to fix it. Can anyone give me any tips? I am with eircom and am using a netopia router if thats any help. Any help will be much appreciated. thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭Vorrtexx

There's a whole load of people over at the official Infinity Ward forums complaining about the same thing. Apparently the multiplayer online is really buggy on the PS3 or there's alot of problems with the online servers right now

Just got into a game there after literally 15 minutes trying to connect. Bloody thing eneded about thirty seconds afterwards:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

My online has been fine so far, only been playing it about an hour and a half though.

If microsoft charge for servers ,they must have servers spare for new games.

Maybe sony wait until they have the game sold first.

I'd say sony will eventually have a purchase system for their networks.
It wouldn't be all that bad I think.

i was having the same trouble and in the end i ran to the right at the start so that i was lined up in between the tree and the tank , then moved forward from that point about halfway and just stayed still until they passed.

and thats not the end buy a long shot :D

I sorted the port forwarding. You can get the port numbers from activisions website. Go to the custom services on the netopia router menu. The click on define service. Give it a name and enter a port no. in each of the three boxes. Mark them as TCP or UDP according to the activision website. I got it working fine now.
This game is the business online, much better than Rainbow 6 or Resistance.

I got through this bit on my first attempt, but think it was just luck really. It was probably the most nerve-wrecking part of any game. I hit the dirt as soon as my partner told me to, and was right in the middle of the group. I had to edge painfully slowly to the left and the right as various soldiers practically walked on top of me, but they never spotted me. Brilliant stuff!

did anyone else have immense fun with the C130 level? Think it was called "death from above" or something like that. where you're in the plane with the bug guns firing down on your targets. sooo much fun. :D I'm currently just finished the level after that (had to go out :() but looking forward to giving it another lash tomorrow after work. not tried online yet. anyone have the link to the port forwarding info on the activision site just in case?

Sorry, but what exactly is port forwarding? I don't suppose I could just enter the numbers you did?

Best shoot em up E V E R even considering I got through it in one sitting, cant get on multyplayer either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

rumours abound on various ps3 related sites saying that they're working on server patches to fix the MP problems people have been having.

so i guess we just hang in there and play through the SP mode again on the ultra hard setting and bide our time till they've fixed it. :D

it worked for warhawk, have patience glasshoppers. ;)

I ordered mine from videogamesplus.ca for $77 delivered so with the weak US dollar right now it works out about €53. Cheaper than instore unless you have some sort of discount or voucher. I ordered it in the weekend and it shipped yesterday.

Got online last night after minimal waiting, played two immensely enjoyable games and then got disconnected. This is frustrating, but man was that fun while it lasted.

Cool thanks man. Get a discount in HMV but read here they are €70 odd. So videogameplus might be the best option.

loved that level! though i got a bit carried away at the start and wiped out too many friendlies with indiscriminate bombing. brilliant game though, highly enjoyable though i haven't tried online yet.

I love the Death from Above level too, but I think my favourite level was the sniper level, especially the end when you're running through the apartment blocks carrying the guy, so tense.

I loved the truck chase at the end too, that was great fun, I kept trying to take out the drivers, which I don't think worked, and the last couple of moments were pretty cool too. I thought 'Soap' was going to die too. The epilogue was fun to play too.

Online mode is fun as hell as well, especially when you unlock the 'last stand' perk. has come in handy playing domination, when I'm at a flag, get shot and manage to blast people with my handgun while lying in a bloody heap just long enough to capture the flag.

Hmm quoting myself! Got on again for ten minutes or so today, I'm pretty sure there's still some problems with their servers. After the 'Host disconnected' I couldn't rejoin.

It,s working, It's working, Multiplayer that is. Happy days. I guess our servers are up and running.
I am on eircom broadband wifi and its good if not very very good.
I did not mess with my router settings, the graphics are animal, just getting a handle on it now, cant seem to get the player chat to work as in warhawk.
To be honest the only reason I am not glued to it now is that her indoors is watching friends, ahh well.
Good luck, hope it is all sorted for ya all.
If anyone interested in starting an Irish clan ?

I would but I'm in a Warhawk/Resistance/Rainbow 6 clan already that no one seems to show up for except the mod and myself :P, he has COD4 now so that's been added to the list. He can't connect online either and has been getting immensely frustrated and is talking about selling the game, so if he indeed does, I'm defo in. Absolutely love COD online.

I didn't have any major probs with online except my rank dropping back a few times, so I've been playing it a fair bit. The last stand perk is my favourite thing in it so far. Really handy in domination, had a couple of times where I managed to take out two or three guys as they tried to capture the flag I was defending. *sigh* good times. I'm heading on to play it now, add me to PSN friends if you want a few games. My ID is NotorietyH

Got COD4 today and it states on the box that it does up to 1080p.

My TV is capable of 1080p yet the game automatically adjust to 720p.

Is this "normal"? Do I need to disable "720p" in my PS3 display settings to get 1080p?

cool, will have a look for ya dude, cant seem to log onto server now but off to work in a bit.
Even with probs I am not disappointed, great game:D
To the best of my knowledge no game has been ever been made in 1080i, it may output in that resolution but HD games are 720 so should make no difference.

I think I read you need to disable 720p and 1080i in the PS3 settings to it to switch into 1080p
