Couple of (hopefully) simple Sky HD questions....

I'm strongly considering switching from Chorus to Sky HD.

    1. I presume I can record something and watch something else at the same time?

    2. When Sky do the install do they do "everything"?
    i.e. fit the dish outside, run all cables in (neatly), set up the box, etc;

    3. Is the Channel 4 issue fully resolved?

    4. What's the story about needing a phone line? I have one, but does it have to be run through the house to the Sky box??

    5. Any news/hints about any new HD content?

    And here's my outrageous question.......
My sister-in-law just got married to a guy from Turkey, and they're moving over here in a few weeks.
Would he be able to use his Turkish card in my Sky box? (for Turkish football)

    1. I presume I can record something and watch something else at the same time? Yes - In fact you can record 2 things at the same time as long as you are watching one of them.

    2. When Sky do the install do they do "everything"?
i.e. fit the dish outside, run all cables in (neatly), set up the box, etc; Yes - they were great - our guys had to set up the dish 4 stories up and wired it all very neatly and showed us everything. Excellent service - but they were contracted by a local company - I think Sky sell the franchise to different stores, so I imagine it could vary.

    3. Is the Channel 4 issue fully resolved? Channel 4 and now Channel 4 +1 which is great if you miss your show at the normal time - it starts again an hour later on another channel.

    4. What's the story about needing a phone line? I have one, but does it have to be run through the house to the Sky box?? Phone line is necessary if you're ordering movies from box office or pay per view events - you can connect and disconnect as necessary but it might get messy - If you can connect it do.

    5. Any news/hints about any new HD content? Nope - but i've been so busy working lately i've a whole weekends worth of tv to watch! it's great for lazy sundays...

Only sky cards work in sky boxes. Not to mention sky is only available on one satellite cluster. You would need a whole new setup (dish, lnb's, box) to get both.

A separate 80cm dish and satellite receiver will work. Channels on the EAST beam won't be received.

A Sky Digibox is no use but suitable receivers & dish are available locally and the WEST beam is very strong on many channels. I do get all the main turkish channels without a card. His card will work here on the channels not beamed East, in a suitable receiver. He can bring one from Turkey. The electric and the local dishes are suitable.

Sky Digibox uses a Satellite selection at 28.2E, Turksat is 42E, so dish points more east and not tilted up as much.

A Wavefrontier T90 will receive Turksat and Sky on a single dish having two LNBs.

I know someone here in Belfast with an 80cm dish for Turksat. Some channels are inclined to break up in heavy rain reckon 90cm would be better although in the East and South of Ireland the signal is probably stronger

If he has the Digiturk package, this is on 7 deg E. Make sure if you get a dish installed it is aligned on the right satellite. TRT1, 2 & 3 are available FTA on this.
I use 90 cm in Cork for 7 E and 42 E to ensure no rain fade .
