hey everyone longtime reader first time poster am looking for some advice if anyone has any?? I graduated a couple of years back with an ag science degree from ucd , this would entitle me to teach both ag science and biology to LC level. I am goin to apply for the dip this year and if i was lucky enough to get it, I was wondering wat people thought would be my best option either to teach biology or ag scioence.. Ideally i'd like to teach AG science but are there enough jobs out there or would i be better off concentating on biology.. Thanking you in advance the Gaffer

I imagine with an ag science degree, you can teach both. Wouldn't be sure but I'd say definitely science to JC anyway.

yeah you can teach both but in the dip i think you have to concentrate on one subject more than the other and you get inspected one the one you choose as a preference more than the lesser..also teaching ag science doesnt allow to teach JC science while if you teach biology it does..as i stated already i would rather teach AG sci but i would like to know what the demand for teachers is before i commit myself?? cheers the gaffer

I'm pretty sure if ag science qualifies you to teach biology, you're qualified to teach jc science. I imagine that there aren't many schools teaching ag science (though to be honest, I don't know) but as a result of this, there probably aren't an awful lot of ag science teachers out there either, so it could go either way. Biology is the most common of the science subjects though so having biology isn't a huge advantage really. Once again though, most schools teach biology these days so there are a lot more jobs out there too.

Just remember to say you'll teach all of these and SPHE, CSPE and religion. Think the CV phrase is "willingness to teach" i.e. will do anything for a job! Yes, Biology is far more popular but then again, so is the amount of biology teachers out there while Ag science is thin on the ground when it comes to teachers. Have you checked with teaching council if you can teach Ag economics?
