I was trying to figure out why i coudlnt' print from my lapppy, so i went to this guy at the desk in the daedalus building. He told my friend and I that we coudlnt' print wirelessly because out computers were vista. I mean that's so ****ing insane! Like UCD are pushing these laptops on people which aren't even compatible with the system! We weren't give any time frame for when it would be avaible either. It was kind of just a shrug of the shoulders. Looks like i'm gonna be using my memory stick for a little while longer.

UCD are not pushing laptops with vista

Funny that! The majority of my friends who got the ucd laptops had vista on them. Besides all new laptops come with vista anyway. The system should support both systems equally.

I'm pretty sure it's not that simple.

    /devil's advocate.

yeah i've argued with them loads about this. Your friends definately didnt get any laptop from UCD with Vista- No way hosé! They don't like it and want to stay behind the technology for another year before starting to support it and selling it so they stuck to XP this year.

Even worse news for anyone who did get a vista this year - I was told that they even when they do have the software to support Vista they will only support Vistaas that were bought from them- it all seems a bit redic if u ask me

There's no point arguing though- this decision obviously came from above where Brady and co got a nice little payoff from Dell to only sell there boring laptops

Too right as well. It makes sense to stick with XP untill the kinks are ironed out of Vista.
UCD is hardly the only place that's had issues with vista and drivers.

Windows XP and 2000 are the only operating systems that can print wirelessly in UCD. It's a pain in the arse, but it's not changing any time soon from what I can see.

    Two solutions:
    1) Use a USB key or your H drive and print from the UCD PCs.
    2) A little to set up but a lot more convenient once it's done. If you have a copy of XP somewhere, Google 'VMWare Player' - it lets you install a copy of XP on your laptop and run it in a window at the same time as your main operating system. Copy whatever you want to print over to the XP window and print from there.

One of my mates magically got her printing running on vista, who know's how but she managed it.

i see they've finally switched over to IE7 - It's only been out about 6 months.

In fairness to them though Vista is ****e. The flaws are still rampant in it, it's a crock of pure **** and XP is a hundred times better.

And yet firefox has been out so so much longer...

Well, I use both Vista and XP on a day to day basis and find Vista to be a superior operating system, driver support issues aside. The problems most people have with vista are not caused by Vista as much as running it on systems with insufficient specifications.

Firefox for the win - except for the super old version that they have on the ucd network it's like 1.02 or some such, still nice though

Vista can print using Windows Printing and Internet printing (IPP) just like 2000 and XP can. Plenty of other places do without that silly iPrint client that also locks people out of using other systems like Mac OS X.

Come on it doesn't even have a quick launch run prompt, you have to search for it in the search bar. The tcpip functions are different too.

I don't know I do broadband tech support and it's so much ****ter trying to troubleshoot with Vista to the point that I'm beginning to loathe it. I guess I'm still pissed they changed the name. Longhorn had such a cooler porn sounding name.
