World Poker Finals (WPT) Foxwoods Casino

    Link

An interesting hand came up early in the day on a board of Adiamond.gif Kspade.gif Jheart.gif 10heart.gif Qspade.gif. Schulman moved all in for almost 25,000 into a pot of less than 1,000 and Nguyen quickly called all in behind him.

Surprisingly, Teddy Adalis folded with the nuts on the board and this prompted a laugh from the table.

Dobrilovic moved all in behind him and Seat 6 announced that he was all in.

The action was now up to Shak and she thought for a few moments before mucking her cards to the astonishment of the table.

Of course, the players turned over their cards and began to laugh. Schulman said, "Every little chip helps," as he collected his piece of the pot. Nguyen couldn’t stop laughing and it took Adalis several minutes before he understood what was going on.

Now, I've made mistakes before, maybe more than my share, I've even misread the board and played my hand accordingly.

But with 4 people going allin in front of you in a $10k event, how can you not take a moment and get some clarity.

    The mind boggles.

    Huge lol: from her blog:

"Annette 15 kept raising every hand. I had J 10 in the big blind. I called her. I hit my 10 and led out. She looked at my chip stack and re-raised me enough to put me all in. I sat and thought about it for a few minutes. I knew by the way she looked at my chips that she was on a draw. She was trying to get me to fold. I looked at Annie Duke and Paul and said “I may be crazy, but I’m calling.” Sur enough, she had a bottom pair, raising me with J 3 and a flush draw. The Turn was a blank. The River was a diamond. All I can say is that my gut was right."

Shak's own poker philosophy is nonexistent. "I have zero strategy," she says. "I just go into a poker zone and I play."

Is there any circumstances in which a fold could be correct? Do you have to show your cards to get your share of the pot with the nuts on the board?

Say you'd butchered the hand by limping with KK expecting a raise down the line, then checked the set on the flop, played every street wrong etc.

In this case folding the river might look silly but for the sake of 250 chips, it might save you looking even sillier by showing your holding.

Interesting point, I still think you look more silly for folding as she did.

Or in a cash game with a nasty rake

Yeah,, if the purpose of folding there is to make yourself not look like a bad player then we have a problem

Theres no point in calling off your whole stack when the best she could have got was a chop, good fold imo.

Folding here does alot for your image, and the other players would mark you as a bad player, +EV :);):)

And whats the worst she can get  The only justification to folding here is to portray yourself as a fish and try to take andvantage of this image later on, but i doubt if this was what she was doing, she just got scared of all the chips in the middle and didnt study the board

lol study the baord, it should of been obvious, no study involved
also, it should of been apparent long before any chips went in

Out of interest why is everyone laughing at the woman who folded and not the man who folded before her?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,288 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Women making mistakes playing poker is funnier obviously.

He folded after one person went allin, oops.

She folded after 4 people went allin, brain dead.

Incidentally, I think the first person betting should of just made a standard bet - 500 to 1kk chips into the 1k pot.
It would garner less attention than shoving for 25k into a 1k pot, and would make someone/people less likely to sit up and take notice.

I believe he folded when 2 people had gone all in. Seems equally brain dead to me. But as people have been pointing out it's WAY FUNNIER when women poker players make mistakes. Because, like, it proves they should be at home breeding or something instead of making a fool of themselves playing cards.

Did you notice all the flak that Jerry Yang got for winning the WSOP and not being good looking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,452 ✭✭✭Lazare

That clip upthead makes my blood boil. Typical obnoxious dumb yank.
Telling her idiot on the rail that she has Aces while someone is still yet to act, then all that whooping afterwards when the poor guy gets eliminated.

Selfish, obnoxious bitch. I really hate that american attitude. Look at any EPT final to see how the sophisticated carry themselves. The fact that it's encouraged over there is sad.

Played her at 3/6 today lol. Stuff like that always happens, like when you look up a new word or something, and then see it again 2 days later.
13/1.6/1 wasn't exactly what I was hoping for though :(
