AVG and Ad-Aware

    HI. just a quick problem im having. Wonder if others are too.
    Any time i run a scan either with AVG or Ad-Aware it's using 70%+ of My cpu. Is this normal? Any ideas/suggestions to help reduce the cpu usage?
    Running windows xp sp2
    Fujitsu siemans
    Intel pentium M 1.7 ghz
    496 mb RAM
