MTV R on UPC?

When MTV R launched today, I have to say I was disappointed UPC didn't carry it (disappointed, but certainly NOT surprised).

Does anyone know if UPC have any plans to carry it? It's not that I'm particularly interested in it. To me it's just the principle - it's so irritating that Sky always have channels at launch (except C6) but yet UPC usually take months to get them - if at all. The only time they have channels at launch is when they replace others which doesn't really count (i.e. Dave, or Virgin 1)

What makes this one worse though, is that so many were removed recently without being replaced. You'd think that they'd have been making sure to get something like MTV R at launch if they really knew what they were doing (especially this, since they have all other MTV UK&IE channels)

Apparently NTL have plans to put on a few new channels on their line up ,well that's what I was told a few weeks ago. They couldn't say when or what the channels will be just that they will be coming very soon .

Just looked up MTV-R - with a program line up of:

    The Real World
    Pimp My Ride
    Next
    Meet My Mom
    My Own
    Jackass
    Wildboyz
    Viva La Bam
    Punk'd
    My Super Sweet 16

Eh, it doesn't actually bring anything new to the game, does it? Tbh, I hope NTL don't waste a channel showing all that sh!te again.

Anyway, the only major channel launch in the last while was More4, and to be fair they carried that from day one. Since Eurosport came back, I don't see any other channels on Sky that are must have's for NTL - no point in adding channels just for the sake of it:)

They should put on the ITV channels if they can they're very popular,Living 2,Zone thriller and Zone horror channels wouldn't be a bad addition I think. They should add a few more film channels to their ordinary digital max service like Films 24,True movies etc. They should also put on some of the plus one's for alot of the channels.

Sadly I don't think ITV want any of their extra channels in this country. ITV3 was removed from both Sky and cable. ITV4 was also removed from Sky.

You wouldn't want much going on between the ears if that line up was to keep you entertained. Waste if channel slot IMO.

My main point was the principle of it. That this is a new channel (not necessarily a good one :D) and they have just removed so many. Then the other point was that they have a deal with MTV already for everything else, so relations must be fairly good - so they had no real excuse not to launch it (even if just for the sake of filler)

Probably rights issue. Irish rights would cost them more. Usually if a channel doesn' have a dedicated Irish adstream, it has (some) charge for carriage here. ITV wouldn't be willing to the risk of setting one up (to avoid having to charge carriage fees), and UPC probably wouldn't be willing to pay the costs of carriage

They took them off the same time that TV3 was opening legal procedings, so definately rights issues. Not so bad for satellite users as the channels can still be viewed by tuning them in manually.

Only advantage I could see to this channel existing is if MTV decided to actually put some Music back into Music TeleVision and stick all the reality rubbish on the new channel, some chance though.

So true, anytime I turn it on theres usually those so called reality heavily scripted programs and I just true that crap off. I used to love Ray Cokes on MTV most wanted. Also in the early days it had a nice Euro feel to it. Miss those days
