    Hey,

I'm going to need to be able to access the Q drive from home over the next couple of weeks so I need to get my laptop connected to the network, or whatever you call it. (Talking about computers isn't my strong point!) Anyway, I'm going to call into Computer Services tomorrow about it, but I'd like to know what information I'm going to need about my laptop because I haven't got time to go back home to get any information I might need. I e-mailed Computer Services about it but seeing as the last e-mail I sent them 3 weeks ago hasn't been replied to yet, and seeing as my Dad e-mailed them about access when he was buying the laptop 3 months ago and only recieved a reply 2 weeks ago, I'm hoping someone here can help. (Just in case they don't get back to me in time!)

    Thanks,

    J

Q drive access from outside of college? I would be very surprised if they allowed that tbh.

How do I access U: Drive and Q: Drive from home?
NetDrive allows Windows users to access their u: drive and q: drive, once you have internet access, from home. NetDrive can be installed quickly and easily following the instructions below:

Installing NetDrive - Windows XP ONLY
    (i) Double click netdrive.exe and accept all default settings
(ii) Double click netdrive_xp.reg and accept all default settings

Installing NetDrive - Windows 2000 ONLY
    (i) Double click netdrive.exe and accept all default settings
(ii) Double click netdrive.reg and accept all default settings

    Using NetDrive
    (i) Click Start -> Programs -> NetDrive -> NetDrive
    (ii)Click the Connect button
(iii) At the prompt enter your PC Suite username and password
(iv) Your u:drive is available in the My Computer object as NUI, Galway on 'NetDrive'

    So ya, they do.

Ya I have NetDrive but I presume I have to register the laptop with COmputer Services or something? I can't seem to get a proper answer from them.

Omg, this makes things a lot easier. :)

Also, maybe if you have any other question you should post them on the SIN boards - they usually have all the info re PC stuff.

Don't like the SIN boards, prefer it here!! And I've never had a problem getting an answer to any of my questions on boards.ie, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I don't know what that means but I feel bad for you! Doesn't student accommodation suck sometimes?

Nor do I. And the SU had the arrogance to give their propaganda to class reps telling people about the SIN boards, saying they were the only boards for NUIG. Grrr ........
