Photojournalism project on Mental Health

    Hi,

I'm a photographer who is joining together with a Human Rights graduate to create a photojournalism project on mental health. Amnesty International have been lobbying for better mental health services in Ireland for years now and because of their ongoing work they have pushed the Government to increase the Mental health budget significantly. However there is still a lot more to be done to get our services on par with most other European countries.

In an effort to bring more awareness to this silent illness I am proposing to carry out a project which will include the stories of people's experiences in the Irish Mental Health System be it good or bad. Through this it will highlight services available to people suffering from a mental illness, but also prove that people are still out their suffering without adequate support.

The project will be exhibited and consist of photographs of the subject. The subjects will be treated respectfully and can choose to remain faceless in the photographs. Assisting the photos will be a written extract/short story of their experience.

Currently Im trying to indicate whether this project is realistic and if there are people outthere willing to tell their stories. I realise that the area of mental health is a very sensitive subject however if you do feel like you want to get involved PM me. Also if anyone has any advice on the project feel free to share.

    Thanks
